Ok I just got my TICA entry back and I didn't realise that they use US terminology.

So Hope is down as:

LH Kitten Lynx Point DIV Balinese
Chocolate Torbie Point Female

Now with the GCCF:

Chocolate Tortie Tabby Point Balinese Varient

Balinese Variant:
"Short-haired Balinese, known as Variants... Kittens resulting from mating a Balinese to a Siamese have a short, plush coat and are known as Variants. They are invaluable in a Balinese breeding programme as they carry the recessive long hair gene which they pass on when mated back to a long-haired Balinese or another Variant."

http://www.palantir.co.uk/bali.html

So if LH in her description is for Longhair then its definitely wrong.

So I heard in TICA they go by the phenotype instead of the genotype. Is this true? That would still not make her Balinese.

Also Torbie as far as I know is a tortie cat with tabby stripes right? Is that considered the name when its a colourpoint too? The problem is I only know one breeder who shows with TICA, and she is showing a full Bali and so doesn't know.

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks!

I thought that TICA when by length of coat - so that would make her a shorthair. Hopefully the people in TICA can help you out. I only did CFA and ACFA.

As far as color - torbie is a tortoiseshell tabby, so the color is ok.

It is very true that the major cat associates have very different ideas about cats. Persi is a CFA registered cat and where it says breed on his papers it says Persian. Hence, Persi the Persian cat. (My wife also happens to be Persian.) However, people tell me all the time that I do NOT have a Persian cat but a Himalayan. Well, the CFA, which is the largest cat registrar in the world says there is no such breed. But on Persi's registration papers where it says color: it says seal-point Himalayan. His COLOR, not his BREED. I also know he is called a colourpoint longhair along with some other names depending on who is doing the calling.

CFA USED to have it split between persian and himalayan as 2 different breeds, but apparently in the last few decades (not sure when they changed it) the himalayans became a color class of the persisan - so its a division thing now - like solid division, bicolor divisian, himalayan division.

Technically that's really the way it should be - a himi is the same standard as the persian - just a different color pattern

Ok so the show organiser contacted TICA in the states and it turns out the Hopey will be shown as a Siamese. When I register her with TICA she will be put down as Siamese her longhaired "ancestry" will be noted.

Very Interesting (to me anyway
)
