How can we still consider him feral?

Last night as I was falling asleep, Ferris came and lay down right next to me, but on top of the covers. I was lying on my side, and after patting him for a bit, I curled up my hand a little and tucked it under his chin, and started drifting off to sleep.

After a minute or two, I felt him shift and stretch out, and not only did he snuggle his head down onto the top of my hand, but he also stretched his little front paw up and into the curled palm of my hand, with his toe pads against my fingertips, then he fell asleep.

I carefully opened up one eye, because this I just HAD to see - my semi-feral boy, asleep two inches from my face, HOLDING MY HAND WITH HIS LITTLE PAW!!!!

Have I mentioned that I am completely and totally in love with this little character?

That is so unutterably sweet, Betsy! I have tears. Demonstrations of trust like that are so humbling, and so sweet.

If I could have blinked my eye to take a picture to share with you all I would have, believe me, but there was just no way I was going to ruin that special moment by extricating my hand from underneath him and getting up to get the camera.

The best I could do was to simply share the story with you all. I just love that you all love him, too!!!

I have got to get some more picture of this boy for you all - especially now that he's grown so much and has a little pot belly!

I don't think there isn't a cat anyone here doesn't love. They are all cute or handsome and special in their own ways. Even those cat with squished faces who look like they've ran into a parked car are cute

Those moments of trust and love mean so much. Ferris such an adorable little guy and he's lucky to have a meowmy that loves him as much as you do!

Oh. That is just too sweet. I consider it precious when my little ones do something like that to me, but coming from your little feral boy? My goodness. You're a very lucky person. And Ferris is a very lucky kitty.

What a sweet little guy! Betsy, you have really done a wonderful job with him. You've allowed him to be Ferris, and given him the time and patience and love to allow him to trust and love you. The bond you have with him is so incredible!

And you know, when I hear things like this...about a little feral or semi-feral boy learning to love and opening his little heart up...well, then I know why we take the time to give advice in Caring for Ferals, why we advise people that adoping a feral can be so very rewarding, and why we have Save Samoa and Stray Pet Advocacy.
Ferris is such a special little guy!

Oh Betsy how heart warming to read this. Ferris seems to be making progress easier and quicker. That little precious red fur ball is finally feeling the love
You are doing such a fabulous job with him.

I just read in a thread that Ferris and Ging are going to have a new sister, too!! Congratulations! Make sure you talk to them both about the new arrival on a regular basis. As well as you have done with Ferris its going to be a cinch bringing in the new Bengal girl!

Awww! Thanks for sharing that with us. He's make remarkable strides and it sounds like you have finally earned his love and trust.

Chynna likes to use my hand as a pillow sometimes when she is laying on the pillow next to me and she likes to "hold hands" too and often curls her toes around my finger. It's very heart melting.

that so cool.

i as going to post a thread the other day, about something like that..
Eazy always seems to want to be touching me at bed time, often he likes to put head on my arm, or have his paws touching the arm or something. I wonder how many people have cats that do that.

That must have been such a special moment! Biscotte has started jumping onto the bed at night, and every couple of nights I notice she comes a bit further up. i can't wait till she takes the plunge to be right beside me. Mind you, that is if Ellie and Dushka will let her!
