URGENT These cats need Help or will be Euthed. MANY different kinds.

Urgent! (please cross post)

Sixty cat lives are on the line. Apparently, a Baton Rouge hoarder has been received media attention, therefore alerting Baton Rouge Animal Control. The animals must be removed from the house by Monday, Feb 26, allowing only 2 days to find homes. These are indoor-only cats, and the conditions in the house are deplorable. Volunteers are cleaning the house so that this hoarder will be able to keep her dogs and possibly some of the cats, or at least buy some time. If we can't get an extension on allowing the cats to remain in the house beyond Monday, any cats remaining will be picked up by Animal Control and euthanized.

Local rescue groups are desperately attempting to place as many cats as possible, for boarding, fostering or adoption. Most of the cats have been spayed/neutered, and appear healthy, well fed and friendly. Vaccinations most certainly have not been kept up-to-date, and they have not been on flea treatment.

13 cats were taken today, 10 as barn cats (we tried to select the least friendly, and least desirable colors) and 3 will go up for adoption. There is another barn cat possibility for another 10 or so. But so many remain.

If anyone is willing to board, foster, adopt, accept in shelters, etc., even if only 1 or 2 cats, please contact:

Dianne at (225) 572-1156
or
Emily at (225) 335-4606

Even if you don't get this message until after the deadline, please call because we are hoping for an extension. There are also approximately 7 dogs, however the owner has arranged temporary housing for all but a friendly Pitt mix--so if anyone can foster him temporarily, please contact one of the above numbers. Please pass this on to anyone you think may be able to help.

Below are a few photos. Click on this link for more photos and video taken today.

I can understand those who choose not to "help" this lady who has allowed this to happen, but we are not trying to help the lady. We want to save these cats' lives. As you know, hoarders love the animals and are torn apart at having them taken away, especially when they will be euthanized.

As always, animals suffer at the hands of humans, whether intentional or not.

Any possibility of transporting the cats to shelters out of state? My shelter routinely accepts transports of dogs...if I knew that transport was available, I might be able to convince the person in charge of the program to take a few cats.
