Ok so Willie is back to his spunky self now, but u got to remember he was and indoor/outdoor cat, well now he has startd to go right in front of the litterbox once a day and its only the litterbox down here in between the kitchen and the living room, any other time he does go in the litterbox but for some reason once a day he goes right in front of the litterbox, and he still scratches to try to cover it up and what not, also we do have to make a vet appointment because it is runny and the other day there was blood in it! Also u have to remember that Willie is now and indoor only cat because he went missing, well tonite he went to the door and we told him no so he went to the litterbox and went right in front. See we now know who it is because I heard him scratching at the wall and well with 6 cats it is really hard to determine who it is unless u actually catch them and well we finally did tonite, what can i say we narrowed it down to willie or blue
but any one know why he could be doing this???

Well, not really.. exactly. I dont' necessarily think the location he's going in has anything to do with why he's doing it.. or doing it in that spot, if that makes any sense. It did in my head, but you know how that goes..

I'd just start at the beginning, and see if you can't resolve it by employing the normal methods. I think my first thing would be to add yet another litter box, or put one near the door he's used to going out. There are a few other things you can try too.

See I am sorry if I made it sound like the location has anything to do with it
That litterbox has been in the same spot where willie usues it since hes been here
and well we already have 4 litterboxes, and like i said he is using the litterboxes any other time its just that once a day he goes right in front of it
and we clean the litterboxes daily so it cant be because they are dirty because the other cats rarely use the one willie does! Willie uses out of the 4 litterboxes 3 of them. And we cant exactly move the litterboxs because 2 labs that like to stick their heads in it is a nono
but the main one is the only one he does this in front of and like i said its only once a day! Could he be doing this because we arent letting him out anymore, i just dont understand it because he has NEVER done this before and this has started about a week ago, and he is 11 years old as well! I just dont know what to do
but i am a little relieved that we know who it is so I can give more background and also that we can moniter him better, that and well we do see a vet trip as a possibilty because the one day my mom did see blood in it, but she hasnt recently ! But istn that weird for him only doing it once a day

It's unusual, but it's not so unheard of that they start a different habit sometimes. For instance.. once Khan was neutered.. we started having litter box issues with him.. I think changes in their little lives just affect them. With him.. once he decided he didn't like using the self-cleaning litter box (we had one for three or four kitties).. and then boom.. it was an issue. Now, he still uses it, but we had to add an additional two litter boxes (and he does have one in *his* room, but only uses it when my sister isn't prompt in letting him out in the mornings and he can't hold it any longer). So, now that we have four, and three of them are kept clean (I'm not responsible for his inroom box, hehe), we have no more problems. They just get goofy sometimes.

Another option, perhaps, is to put a harness on him and take him out when he tells you he has to go?

Go figure with the dogs loving kitty crunchies. I *hate* that, and they all do it. UGH!!!

A lot of male cats just like to go on clear, flat surfaces without digging or burying their stuff (including one of mine) and maybe all you can do is have a large-ish tray on the floor, wider all around than the box and under it somewhat, and be glad he's not going all over the place. It does mean having to clean up each time, but believe me there are worse things!
