Okay so we have a stray cat that has been here since summer. He use to be extrememly skiddish. I've been working with him since then and he's okay around me, still a little skiddish and aggressive. He has scratched me twice so far.

When I pet him I try just to pet his head but today He let me rub his belly and I noticed a golf-ball size lump. I think it did feel almost like a waterballoon. Maybe pus inside or something? I don't know.

I'll take him the vet, $ isn't really the problem, I'm just worried that this cat is going to completely freak out and just go crazy. He obviously hasn't had any shots. I'm worried that he may scratch the vet. Do you think the vet would still take him?

Thank you

It's been my experience that semi-feral cats tend to freeze in fear on an examining table. I haven't had a problem.

If you want to be sure, you could call and ask if your vet minds working with a feral or semi-feral cat. They probably won't have a problem with it.

I agree about calling the vet and explaining the situation and giving them a head's up that he is a stray/feral.

Lumps can be anything from an infected scratch to harmless cyst to cancer. It's best to get him checked just to be sure.

Sending lots of good vibes his way.

Yeah, I would just let the vet know, but I would try and get him to the vet to have it checked.

Please keep us updated on how he is doing.

I agree with the others about letting your vet know that this is a semi-feral cat. Good luck. I hope you can get treatment for him and that the lump is not a serious problem.

Hi everyonee. I thought i'd give you all an update. We took him to the vet a little over a week ago and the vet said that he has a hernia so he's getting that repaired and he's getting neutered on the 21st. Nothing too serious.

Alsoo while he was at the vets all he did was purr. It was cute and surprising. The vet had to turn the water on to scare him so he could hear his heart.

That's good news!

I don't know why a hernia didn't occur to me...Stormy had one just like it removed when she was spayed.
