Hi everyone,
My 7 year old, in door cat all of the sudden started scratching herself bald. This has happened before but not to this degree. I haven't changed the food or the litter. She keeps licking her paws and scratching her head, tail, and neck to the point where there's almost no more hair on the spots, any ideas? I'm planning on taking her to the vet soon. Thanks in advance for the help.

You need to work with the vet on this, it could be a serious health problem or allergies. Even though you haven't changed the food your cat can develop an allergy to it or an ingredient in it.

I was thinking that or allergies, it sounds just like the stuff our beloved Sambo used to do.

My Kahu is allergic to fleas and I have to make sure he is flea free or else he will go bald - I agree, take your cat to the vet.

It can be outdoor allergies too.

Sneaky Pie will get these "itchy" spots on her, and it will get to the point where she pulls her fur out in patches, it gets so bad. I can see small red marks in the areas where she's pulling out fur. It only happens around this time of year, the vet narrowed it down to her having "seasonal" allergies (just like the rest of the family).

I know there's people out there who don't like this- but if I go to the vets and have them give her a cortisone shot, the "itchy" spots heal and she's fine.

My other kitty has flea allergies, his ears get all gunky if he's got fleas on him. As long as I'm consistant with flea medicine, he's fine too.

It could be an allergy, perhaps the litter. My cat was allergic to the litter; the brand he used changed the formula. The vet said it was spider bites. I had a feeling and changed the litter, gave him a shower and problem solved.

Sometimes they change ingredients in foods, so even though you didn't change the food, it is possible she's now allergic to it.

To eliminate possible medical problems, she needs to see the vet.
