So, I'm in the process of designing my cattery - specifically for my male(s)...

Anybody got any good ideas or links I can look at?

Please?

I gotcha now, but me and Desirée didn't build the place, she just volenteers over there, BARL built the new building, but it is a very good shelter, it is a no kill shelter.

And it is not just for Katrina kitties, it is for all animals, I am sure that there are some Katrina victims there though.

I've some some floor to ceiling walk in cages that have lots of shelves and a treehouse in them for the males.

At one time I kinda desgined my own stud cages (never had to use or build one) but this is my ideal:

1. Large walk in cage from floor to ceiling - probably a good 10 feet square.

2. Screen door for access.

3. Several shelves on the sides and back.

4. A floor to ceiling tree house

5. Litter pan on floor (covered)

6. Food/water dishes on one of the shelves.

7. Around the bottom sides I'd put a plexiglass type of material that can be washed for spraying - maybe 2 feet high.

8. Linolium or something very cleanable for the flooring.

You could hang any of the ribbons up high on the outside of the cage

Now Nancy has a separate "cat house" that has normal household furniture in it and she told me the boys each have their own "bedroom" - so no real cages. I'd like to have seen inside, but she had a new litter of kittens at the time and we couldn't go in there. Maybe when I get another oci from her in a few years, I'll get to see inside the house

That's the kind of cattery I'm talking about!!!!

Once upon a time there was a famous Persian cattery called SouthPaws - I managed to get a glimpse of their cattery on a website and have never been able to find that site again!

Separate bedrooms - I only intend to have no more than 2 studs at any one time!

I guess alot of things depend on your budget and how many cats are being housed.

Our cattery is two stories, 1400 square ft. The 4 boys are housed upstairs. Each has his own 120 square foot room with cat trees. The flooring is sheet linoleum. All baseboards and seams are caulked to contain any spraying and make clean up easy. All the rooms are ventilated with window fans, each room has it's own heater. Central A/C for the summer. The doors on the boys rooms are screen doors with sliding glass windows, so we can control the air flow.
The bottom floor is for the girls and their kittens, it's built into 5 sections. One large queens room, 2 birthing/kitten rooms, 1 area for storage, the fridge and deep freeze, 1 room for medical isolation.

In our home, our bengals share the den/living room, kitchen and 1 bathroom with us. The rest of the house is off limits to them. That's where we hide our breakables.

Nial, with all that for the cats, they don't need to have your entire house to

Aby, Not sure if you all have something like a small pre-made cabin type of house that you could put next to your house. What kind of spacing are we talking about - would it be an entirely separate house for them or part of your house?

I would think the pre-made cabins would work well as you have many rooms that can be turned into individual cat areas with no problem. But you'd have to have a few acres of land to have one of them.

Another option is a mobile type of home with rooms, kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc.

Nial,

Your cattery sounds wonderful! Any pics? Please, please, please!!!!

I have about 15' x 30' to play with. Height and money (at the moment at least) are not major issues. The cattery will be outside attached by a cat run and outdoor enclosure to the house. Well, at least that's the plan!
