You could be me. People find my bridge fear irrational, but I have major problems driving over ones when i can't see the end (ie. if they're really long or curved). I've been known to turn around and find another route if I come across one like that. I also have the occasional terrifying dream about briges.

And water just freaks me out. I can "sort of" swim, but it terrifies me if there's nothing solid under my feet. So anything too deep is out.

I voted for spiders, because they're just awful little critters. The first week I was living alone this GIANT spider came into my apartment, skittering across the floor. I thought I would die. I locked myself in my room and put a towel under the door so he couldn't get in and scare me. Luckily I think he was just passing through because I've never seen him since.

I'm also scared of large groups of people, and situations where I have to deal with people I don't know. I've gone shopping and had to leave because I can't deal with having to interact with the salespeople. The funny part is that I'm a very social person, but it's hard for me to deal with meeting new people or large groups.

And eating in front of people. Which is a pretty awkward problem but I've never found a way to deal with it.

So yes, I have many phobias!

Heights, water and bridges....

I LOVE roller coasters but they are moving and after the first hill I have fine. Other things that cause me to go high like ladders and such, I freak out.....

Water and bridges kinda go hand-in-hand. Water being that I can't swim and have this fear that I will drown when it is my time to go. Bridges going over water terrifies me to high heaven. There is a bridge going out to Put-in-Bay (this island around here) and there is like 2 miles of bridge of water and no sign of land ANYWHERE and I seriously get anxiety attacks when I go over bridges.

OH! And oddly enough, I forgot that I am scared of geese. I got attacked and pecked by them when I was 3 while at the duck pond and will never go near them even now

Snakes for me too, I am scared to death of them.

I found one in my boat house last year, and I went and got the cops to come and kill it.

Neet knows all about this story and she thinks is it hilarious.

Me too. I have a hard time when water splashes on my face in a shower. My sister almost drowned me when I was 3.

Over the river and through the woods...
I voted for heights..it was between that and spiders. I HATE heights if there is nothing separating me from the great abyss, but it there is a fence or wall, I'm fine. The movie scenes where someone is walking on a ledge or even worse, hanging from it...I have to close my eyes and I get sick to my stomach!

Spiders I can deal with as long as they are small, not hairy and not living in my house. I actually let granddaddy long legs live because they will eat little bugs that get in the house in summer time, but any other types I will kill. Wolf spiders, I tell my husband to kill. I won't get close to them! My biggest insect phobia is centipedies!! I HATE them! I WILL NOT get within 10 ft of them!

It's funny with water...I HATE swimming, but I love scuba diving. I think its because I can see what is in the water. I have a big fear of drowning but when I'm diving, I have air with me, and it is fascinating to see what is actually under the surface. And I think that is what I was afraid of to begin with.

If you dont see your answer, feel free to go ahead and tell us.
You do not have the number one answer, so I could not vote. Year after year this question is asked, and the number one answer in all these polls is always the same:

I have a wierd one - vomiting. I've had hypnotherapy for it - before that I couldn't even write the word! I need more hypnotherapy as this one is a really difficult to live with. I can't have children yet as I couldn't look after them if they were sick. I can just about cope with Villy if she's sick - but I only got her after I'd had hypnotherapy for my phobia.
I'm also petrified all the time of catching something that could make me or my partner sick. Or eating new or unusual food. I need help!

Spiders terrify me. I was bitten by a brown recluse a couple of summers ago (but I've been afraid of spiders my whole life.) Yeah, I know, they're not supposed to be in Michigan....but I caught the darn thing and it was identified as a brown recluse!!! I love spring, but I hate spring when the spiders all come out of hibernation and collect on my kitchen ceiling. GAK!!!! Sometimes I'll find a dozen of the darn things. I usually set off a bug bomb in my attic when the weather starts getting warm to kill them. I always set off a bug bomb in my shed now, after being bitten by the recluse.

I tend to be a little claustrophobic. In the O.R. we have a self-contained breathing system that the scrub team is supposed to wear when we do total joint surgery. It has a battery operated fan/exhaust type system inside a disposable sterile hood. OMG!!! When they put that hood thing over my head and face, I start to get panicky....I can literally feel my bloodpressure go up! Thank goodness I don't have to do orthopedic surgery very often!

I also worry about my family or my kitties dying. I guess that's not really a phobia. It's just something that I worry about (sometimes obsessively.)

I voted Mice because I hate them.. But I'm not really that afraid since I did pick one up that got loose at work the other day.

I'm more afraid of getting stuck in a room and can't get out. I guess it's claustrophobia.. I'm ok as long as I know I can get out.

I never went on roller coasters for years, until about 4 or 5 years ago when I let my husband talk me into it. First time was ok, second time they didn't get the restraint bar down far enough or something. I started to slide out when it went into the loop! I braced myself and hung on for dear life

Never again will I go on any sort of ride that I could fall out of.

Spiders, yuck! I'm not scared of heights if I'm standing on top of something tall, but I am scared if I'm standing beside a really tall building. Sometimes when I look up, it looks like it's going to fall over.

I have always been afraid of heights and I still am. Even the smallest height does it to me....I was doing my assignment in the geology building and I was instructed to go to the third floor and look over the edge at one of the displays. I tried, but I can't get near the metal & clear glass railing. It wouldn't have mattered if it were concrete(sp?) because I get too close and it feels like the rail is going to break off and take me with it and I will fall to my death....I start breathing heavy and I feel faint.

Good thing we live in Saskatchewan, not many high places around here.

I'm most afraid of heights, but it doesn't stop me from doing things like going on the roof to put up Christmas lights. It also doesn't stop me from imagining the worst though.

I am terrified of heights. Like most people I think..I could never bungee jump or skydive..I would die of fright for sure.

Spiders I don't like, but am not terrified of them..I know I am bigger than them so one squish and they are gone

I have mild claustrophobia. I feel edgy and nervous every time I am confined in a small and narrow space. One reason why I prefer stairs over elevators.

My big one isn't listed. Plants. Yes, Plants! The thought of them makes my skin just crawl!

It all started when my cousin who is 6 years older than me got jealous because I was born and replaced her in my mother's life. She used to do all sorts of awful mean stuff to me. Like locking me in a closet when I was about 2, dunking me under water at the lake when she was supposed to be holding me, and finally, carrying me over grass when I had no shoes on and then leavng me in the middle of the yard. I think she's the one who got me believing I'd have clovers grow out of my knees if I fell in the grass with shorts on. Oh and watermellons in my tummy if I ate a seed. Now it's 20something years later and I still hate plants. I got over water and everything else, but not plants! There are a slect few I'll touch. Everything else, forget it!
