It would probably never catch on, but...

I wish that smilies were acceptable in the business world when writing emails. It is difficult to convey tone most of the time, but it can be done. I would find it so much easier if I could throw in a smilie face
or ROFL smilie
.

What do you think? Can we start a smilie revolution?

Our e-mail used to do the smiley when we would do the : ( or : ) but now it doesn't. I miss it! I find myself typing in the codes we use here!

you have no idea how many times when I'm writing an e-mail that I want to type in
or
or
but then I realize it doesn't work
I practically think in TCS smilies now..... does that mean I have a problem?

I agree. My last job we were allowed to since we also used IM to talk to each other, but this job one guy wrote back the first time I did : ).

He said that smilies are in appropriate use on a business network. I so wanted to reply back with:
(aka the Censor smily).

Sometimes I find myself wanting to say LOL instead of laughing! We spend entirely too much time here!!

It wouldn't be appropriate for work at all, but there's a lot of faces and smileys that people use for irc and other chats. I could list a few but it would effectively make one of the silliest looking posts ever..
