Either that, or she was threatened into saying she did it all herself and it was a hoax...

Well, she was put in jail this afternoon so....if she was threatened, you would think jail would be a pretty safe place to tell them that.

I don't think she was threatened at all...I think she's whacked!

Some people cook up the strangest tales when they want some attention! Well, this chick certainly got some attention she wasn't expecting!!

I knew a girl in college who faked several "attacks" from her "stalker". The campus was in an uproar. Many of us who knew her suspected the truth. She was never publicly "outed" though.

It is a sick person who does that, and it makes real victims be viewed with suspicion.

Some people are such major attention-seekers that they'd stop at nothing to direct the focus onto themselves. I'd say that anyone who would lie so overtly about such a thing needs to seek some serious counseling.

I really don't like these types of people. If you really need that much attention spend money on a therapist or take up pole dancing.

I would love to get a hold of the flashlight and give her a better beating. I hate these types of stories because then if someone is truel raped, people are less likely to believe her because of the quacks like that.

HTat is wrong for her do do that. But what if it was her husband who beat her and she is protecting him? If she can make up a lie about a rape then she can just as easily say she did it to herself. No matter what though making up a story like that is wrong.

That article made me obscenely angry. For the cops to say it's not that uncommon for people to make it up, and then for the news to quote some study they drug out in which 40% of women made it up.... is irresponsible, offensive, absurd... other bad adjectives.

The truth is that the majority of cases go unreported, exactly because of crap like this. Because somehow its the survivor's fault. Because they're scared nobody believes them. In any other study I've ever seen, the number of false reports is a lot closer to 2 or 3 % than 40%. 40% perhaps decide not to go to trial, or press charges. But rape is underreported, not exagerrated.

It's infuriating.
Women had to fight long and hard to get sexual assault to be taken as seriously as it is today. Women who make false claims like this hurt all women.

It's not an easy subject that's for sure. We victims of real abuse usually never come forward. But then I believe that there are a lot of fake reports as well. Women who have "issues" who need the attention and have something wrong in their minds that they don't see the true effects. There are people who are compulsive liars as well. You catch them with their hand in the cookie jar and they will deny it to their death that "NO they weren't taking a cookie. She certainly needs help there's no doubt about it. I feel kinda sorry for her, she is lacking something fierce so what does that say about her life now and in the future?
What she did was wrong no doubt about it, but why is the key question.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Yeah its pretty obvious that there is something way off key in her head, but she had the entire community scared to death!! Things like that just don't happen around here very often.

While in a way, I feel sorry for her because I know that she needs some serious help, I still hope that she is dealt the highest punishment for what she has done. Our police force was out looking for a man who didn't exist, women were scared to death, she has to be punished loony toon or not.

I myself don't feel sorry for people like that.

My husbands sister is a compulsive liar, I don't even claim her as family, she lies all the time and she will lie about anything. The only way I can be around her is to drink, then I just ignore her. She doesn't lie to me cause she knows I don't believe anything she says. She is easier for me to be around her when I am drinking though, I just always gotta make sure I have plenty to drink.
