Reilly has had a slight cough for quite awhile usually just once a day or twice. But lately past few days it really started getting worse. So a trip to the vets this morning and a chest X-ray they found he has asthma
. The vet said its more common in Siamese. But this is the 1st time I have every had any of my Siamese have asthma. They gave him a steriod shot and said usually this will clear it up and often they only need a shot every 3 or 4months.
I run a air cleaner all the time as we have a wood stove. I also run two humidifiers. What I have noticed is he often has the coughing spell after digging in the litter box. Just wondering what type of litter would have less dust? The vet went on to descrbe different treatments that are more aggresive if the shots don't help. So that of course has me worried.I'm wondering how other peoples cats with Asthma do? I guess I just want some encouragement right now. I always expect the worse and I'm so worried...

I'm sorry your kitty has asthma. I don't have any experience with it but I'm anxious to hear what others experiences are. I hope your kitty responds to the treatment.

What litter are you using now?
I had asked the same question before.
Here are some suggestions from the thread I had started.
egg layer crumble

Pet Gold

I started using the Tidy cat crystals. It doesn't have as much dust as the clay mixture. It also isn't too good on the poo smells but good for urine.

I'm using Cats Pride Oder Control Litter right now. I have 5 cats 3 litter boxes and I dump at least two of them daily and scoop the one in the cellar that they don't use as much. I take it you also have a cat with Asthma? What type of treatments are working for your cat to control the Asthma?

The oder controls might have too much of a perfume smell. Right now we aren't treating her. Vet said it's seasonal, which it is. She has lived with it for 6 years now. It's worst in the winter, I think b/c of the stale dry air. Spring time it tappers off. Allergy meds sometimes help her.
