I might have misunderstood you, but did you state that they where going to put him on oral steriods? Just so you know, that would not be a good idea. Steroids weaken the immune system and could make things ALOT worse. If it was a steroid for the eye, then thats ok, because it is only topical and will not affect the immune system.
Using a vaporizer or steaming up the bathroom and letting them sit there for about 15 minutes, 2-3 times a day, does wonders! You could also get a decongestant like chlorpheniramine which will help.
He may need a differant antibiotic. Clavamox and baytril are normally used for URIs.
GOOD LUCK

hey, thanks for checking up on him

his eyes still look clearer and he seems to be able to open them wider. his congestion is still sounding better too. his inner eyelid is still out but maybe not as much as before.
he is playful and affectionate.
this is only his 3rd day on oral meds so we still have a few days to wait and see if they help him.

kevin is back from the vet. his foster mom came and picked us both up and took us to her vet. he weighed in at 4 1/2 pounds. he tested negative for aids and leukemia and worms. he also got his first round of vaccines. he is being switched from amoxicillin to clavamox. and we hafta wait seven days to find out if its herpes. the doctor thinks its either herpes or just a nasty uri that will take more than the usual amount of antibiotics to get rid of. he has a nasty batch of earmites which i will be treating him for, and the other cat and dog as well in case they have them now too. the whole thing came to a total of $344.00 which his foster mom paid for with care credit.

please keep the prayers coming!

It's good that Kevin has seen the vet. I hope the Clavamox works on his URI. More hugs and get well vibes for Kevin.

Great to hear the vet visit, ear mites are nasty! Treating and ridding of them will help so much! The money is well spent, look at the love you get back from this little guy!

he hates me now

twice a day i have to wrap him up in a towel, pour cleaner in one ear, massage it, pour cleaner in the other ear, massage it, put ear mite medicine in one ear, massage it, put ear mite medicine in the other ear, massage it, give him oral meds, put eye stuff in each eye, wipe out the ears with cotton swabs, clean his head of with a baby wipe cause all that makes a mess. i have to do this two times every day for 10 days.
he absolutely hates it and he hates me, he wont even let me hold him anymore

I've had to give treatment to Radar for conjunctivitis on two occasions and I wouldn't worry as I'm sure your cat won't stay mad at you for long

wildside salmon, kitty kaviar [shaved dried tuna] & meat baby food are all quite popular at my house

Watching the robins sing!
Glad to hear that Kevin seems to be on the road to good health! The poor baby deserves some after all he has been through...lucky for both of you that you found each other!

Every kitty is different....some may be a food treat after treatment, some soothing music, or complete silence in a snuggly safety zone....ears are sensitive, think what you would like after wards.......

For a treat I feed mine canned chicken of the sea chicken (in water). They love it. Please let us know about the herpes thing and how he's feeling.

yep, ill for sure let you know when the herpes test comes back.

hes not feeling any better yet, but this was his first whole day on the new antibiotic.

i got the moist friskies treats that someone recommended but he wouldnt touch them:/ i would think its just cause hes not feeling well if his appetite wasnt so great.

he supposedly loved all treats at his old house though so i dont get it, none of my dogs or cats ever like treats
