I am sure you are doing all you can for your big boy. I believe that you said he was on antibiotics and sometimes they take a while to kick in. However, if you are going to your vet tomorrow, I would check and see if another antibiotic can be used that might hasten the process of healing. Then of course, sweetie will need to be neutered if not already done so.

You have a beautiful boy. Congratuations.

It does sound like some sort of respiratory infection, but hopefully the vet will tell. I would isolate this cat from your other one for now... these things are so infectious. My cat caught a bunch of things simultaneously from a newish shelter kitten, and that kitten even seemed healthy and had all his shots; it was a big, expensive mess.

I just voted on your name poll
I voted coconut and now finding out the other is Kiya, how cute
. Read over your post and am so glad you are taking him to the vet, this is sooooo important, you will be there and its better to find out through a vet, the age and health. When kittens are born with symptoms like this, often it is a respiratory infection or other, can be contagious and deadly........This is why shelters, ASPCA will not allow sick cats to be adopted........ Hope he gets better soon! Please let us know!

Bless you for taking in a sick kitty! My Clyde had a bad URI when I took him home, and instead of going away once he was out of the shelter, it just got worse... until we finally x-rayed him and found he had such terrible pneumonia and pleural effusion that one lung was virtually collapsed and was pushing his heart out of place!

They didn't think my Clydie would make it, but he did, and now he's big and strong and beautiful at almost four years old. http://www.catster.com/cats/242009/in/stroll/

Sending vibes for your little one's recovery, too...

His vet visit has been postponed until next week

i am worried that he might have pnuemonia since he has been sick for so so long. he sounds like a congested darth vader when he breathes :/

he has only been on meds about 10 days ago (the stuff in the eyes) because he was so little she felt that meds might do more harm than good. so i am very hopeful that when he finally does get some oral meds they will fix him right up. i would take him right away to my own vet but my daughter was very ill recently, i had to buy all kinds of meds and special foods and my bank account is completely empty from that

thank you for that link, unfortunately, they do not help pay for the initial examination.

Kevin was started on amoxicilln last night. he has not seen a vet yet but at least he now has medication that should help if it is a URI or other infection.

Have you tried taking him into a steamy bathroom to ease his breathing? Or using a vaporizer (without Vapo Rub), if you have one?
I hope he feels better soon!

Entropion is what would worry me. Here is a brief description i got off Best Friends Website. Hopefully 1 of the websites I posted above will be able to help you. Will any other vet in the city let you make payments?

Also, here is a little info on "entropion", his eye condition. Entropion is an ophthalmic condition in which the eyelids roll inward, allowing lashes and hair to irritate the surface of the eyes. Entropion can be congenital, or it can occur secondary to other types of eye irritation or eyelid injury. Signs of entropion include excessive tearing, squinting, constant rubbing of the infected eye and redness

no, i actually hadnt thought of that but he seems to really be getting better. both his eyes and his breathing. for most of today he hasnt even sounded congested at all and hes only sneezed a couple times. his eyes seem to be clearer and a bit more open.

this has me really excited but if he starts to get worse again or stops improving i will get him to the vet right away one way or another.

mnjulz, i looked at his eyes and they dont appear to be turned in at all. i dont know if that condition is something you can see by just looking but it looks okay. his undereyelids are puffy and white though. thank you for the links i will take a look at them.

Hi Jaycee just wondering how your kitty is doing today. Didn't mean to scare you but it could be something serious that could affect his eyesite. The herpes virus also targets the eyes and will cause blindness if not treated. Hopefully he's doing better today!
