Well, I'm safe as I never learned the dance.

I am in trouble if they try this with YMCA!
i think alot of people will be in trouble with the ymca one.
how stupid and all over a dance which most people wuould have probley done?
Oh no! Suppose they try that with the Macarena!

And that is how you know the difference between people who actually create art in Hollywood and people who just want money. You know, like how the people who "came up with" the Happy Birthday song sue if people sing it. And how Disney keeps getting copyrights extended by law so that Mickey Mouse never goes out of copyright. Anytime I see artists who encourage people to play their songs for free, I like them more and more.

yeah, when this choreography copyright law went into effect i disliked my job more and more.

i teach music - we sing and dance, basically everything i do is copywritten unless i make it up myself. people are moneyhogs.

Yea, but you're covered by the Fair Use Act, which providing you don't reproduce to make money off of it for a profit, then you can share the music and dancing with your students.

Teachers get a little more leaway with using copyrighted material.

*sigh* I guess I'll just stop doing the electric slide...just like I stopped listening to Metallica.

In general, the DMCA makes me want to

And I'm a musician!

I was laughing SO hard I coudln't even finish the article. I stopped after reading...

"Any video that shows my choreography being done incorrectly is being removed. I don't want future generations having to learn it wrong and then relearn it as I am being faced with now because of certain sites and (people) that have been teaching it incorrectly and without my permission. That's the reason I (copyrighted) it in the first place."

Lordy he's gonna sue anyone who doesn't DANCE it right? LOL
post #13 of 23
Yea, some people far overestimate their own importance in the world. Like, really? The "correct" form of the electric slide must be preserved for future generations, just like the Christmas tree or Yellowstone Park

I think that was where I choked, too. Some people really need to get a life.
There are people that still do the electric slide??
That is the stupidest thing I've ever seen! Some people need to get a life and MOVE ON! the 70s are over!

Soooooo....if the dance is done slightly differently than this guys claims the electric slide should be done...wouldn't that technically make it a different dance and not covered by his copyright??
