SURVIVOR-Kitty Style!

Have you ever wondered if any of your cats could "survive" outside?

I just got to wondering as I'm learning about raw feeding. Damita(the blind one ) is prolly the only cat who could catch any prey of the 6.

How bout your kits? Could they "survive"?

Kandie yes ... at 18.5 yr old she can still bring down a crow ( ohh and she is a front declaw)

Zoey yes ... and she explained the whole prey model feeding to me by after y offering her raw chn with some organs... she turned up her little nose and went out and killed and ate a mouse ... See I didnt understand that they prey needed to still have a faint pulse and be warm to be good

Studies show only well-fed cats are accomplished hunters. A cat that is hungry doesn't have the stamina it needs to hunt. Most kills are done by pet cats let outside, not feral cats trying to survive.

Really? I guess I never even thought that domesticated "pet" cats would be the problem ones, ferals would be!

Yes. If it's surviving via hunting prey alone, it's debatable. But cats can scavenge too and are smart opportunists.
If I suddenly disappear and there is no one to care for my babies, the good hunters will survive catching prey, but the rest will raid trash bins, eat the discarded animal parts at the local wet markets, risk stealing the food of the neighbor's dog. It's a sad scenario of survival.

Joey could because he was on his own till we took him in @ 8 months.
The other two...no way!

Hmmm, Trout is pretty good at pouncing, BUT she is also a big fat scaredy cat..So I think she would be too scared outside to catch any food or find shelter. She would probably just slink around and peer nervously at any living thing she saw.

Ripley would be able to feed herself and catch her prey, although she's so paranoid that she'd spend most of her time hiding, rather than hunting.

Fergus could survive, he did so for the first 9 months of his life.

Steuben is too busy trying to catch his own tail to bother with such natural instinctual behaviors.

Melchett wouldn't know how to catch prey if his life depended on it!!! He is far to much of a lazy old man

Ben will eat anything that doesn't eat him first, (including non food stuff such as dust bunnies - he is a total feline trash can!!) He is a thief as well, and I am pretty sure that even if he didn't kill he would be a raider of garbage and would survive quite nicely

Max I have no worries about - despite being spoiled and well fed, he regularly hunts, kills and eats what he has killed!!

Holly would do okay. I am not sure how long she was on her own before she came here but we estimate she is 9. Even as a front declaw she hunts very well. The rest of the clan would have problems and probably be trash raiders. Dianna would have the most trouble because she absolutely hates "outside"

I'd fear for the local bird population if I let Radar out

Portia wouldn't last 5 minutes! I don't think she even knows what prey is Well, thats what happens when you don't have a Momma cat I suppose!

Diesel would be killing things before I knew it Thats why he stays inside
