A friend calls and asks if they can hang out at your place for a few hours. They will be there in 1 1/2. What is the first thing you do?

DH's friends are coming over in an hour from now. They are selling their duplex and a couple is coming over to see it. I started to panic. I quickly picked up mail etc and started to dust. I am waiting for DH to get out of the bathroom so I can clean it. Anyone else like this?

A little, if I know they are coming, but I don't kill myself to get it done.

Well if I haven't showered yet, that is the first thing I would do, hair and makeup next, make sure the bathroom is clean and yes dust around too, possibly vacuum if needed for cat hair

I am so like my mother. The last thing I will do is shower. I always wondered why mom wasn't ready for her guests especially during the holidays. Now I understand. LoL

Yup, I do this, too. Wish I didn't.

When I was little, my mother would play a game with us to get the house cleaned up. We'd pretend we were having visitors, so we'd work like maniacs to clean everything. Someone coming over still means CLEAN FAST!

Oh I hate that ! you know when you are all relaxed and just chillin' then, well, I go all Tasmanian Devil, throwing books on the coffee table shelf, shoving clothes in the spare bedroom, dusting - yep, I´ve been know to dust with the sleeve of whatever I´ve got on
I hate it !
The poor cats dont know what the hells hit the place

Me, too!

Did you ever see those 50's shows where the women clean in high heels and dresses? They'd put a frilly little apron on over the front to clean or cook. I'd like to see them scrubbing out the litter box in those clothes!

I am so proud of DH. He did the dishes without me asking AND cleaned the fan. He took it apart and it's so clean now. LoL I am eating fast too since I didn't have lunch yet. We don't have anything to serve them. LoL just alcohol.

I just throw laundry in the bedroom, pickup any trash, and load the dishwasher or if worse comes to worse....stick the dirty dishes in the oven!

LOL, I've done the dishes in the oven thing...then forgot they were there! Preheating dirty dishes is NOT a good thing!! Needless to say dinner was late that night. (Did I mention I am a terrible housekeeper??)

If the guest is a good friend that knows my housekeeping abilities, I make sure the toilet is clean and sweep and dust a little. If it is someone I don't know very well, I lock the door and hide!

If it's someone who is a good friend or relative who has seen my house a mess, it's clean the bathroom, get a shower, then pick up the newspapers off the floor and/or furniture, and try to clean the kitchen counters off
. If it's someone I don't know very well, it's panic time!
And the shower comes at the last possible minute!

IA. If you need me, just meow..
If it's someone I know then they've seen my house in it's "normal" state of chaos so I don't really do much but tidy up the bathroom and maybe do the dishes, but nothing else. If it's family from out of town, or DH's parents I try to clean up so that my house doesn't look like a cat house.
