Do you miss those old fashioned sweets that you could by for a penny we were just chatting about them after our evening meal and thinking what we´d like.............

what sweets, candies, or chocolate from 'the old days' do you miss or that they dont make anymore ?

Were those penny dainties also known as bumper bars which were a toffee but you could hardly speak when you had it in your mouth

Sherbet fountains as well There used to be a thinnish stick of crunchy toffee as well that had chocolate in the middle?

Look at the Anglo bubblegum as well on that site. I remember chewing on 4 of those to blow huge bubbles

When the area around me was still country and the closest store was 5 miles away, there was a man who drove a red van and brought bread items to you. Jess the Bread Man also had a HUGE compartmented tray in the front with penny candy galore!!!

Kits were popular because you got 4 pieces of candy (chewy type) for a penny! Loved the banana flavor.

Theres a specialist sweet store not far from me which does loads of sweets popular in the sixties and seventies

I remember penny candy

I never had that kind of candy... but, we used to have a chocolate bar called "Seven-Up." It had different sections with different fillings - like of box of chocolates in one bar. Does anyone else remember those?

I remember a candy that was dots on paper, pastel colored they were delicious! I also remember candy cigarettes, pretzel logs, atomic fireballs (yum!), wax bottles...

Candy cigarettes, candy buttons, and those wax things (bottles and sometimes they were sticks)...i remember ALL of those!

Mint juleps and those where 2 for a penny!

We also have one of those retro candy stores just around the corner (and they ship to the US) they have space dust and those flying saucers and sherbet fountains and those powdery bon bons.

and best of all they have English candy and retro tshirts too

I remember that candy bar too, I don't remember eating it a lot though.

You can still find the dots on paper, and the candy cigerettes, and the was bottles at Dollar Tree sometimes.

I love penny candies and five cent ones too! There's a small corner store right by my house and they sell Swedish Fish candies for a cent each. They also have most of my five cent favourites: Mexican hats, spearmint leaves, red hot dollars, blue whales, wax bottles, licorice laces, black licorice, Pop Rocks, and my all-time favourite: Pixy Stix! We always bought nearly whole boxes of those! I think I'm going to go to the store and blow all my money on candy.

not for a penny but they still sell some of these :

wax pop bottles (they have juice in them), those fruit plastic things like strawberries that had powder candy in them, candy necklaces, swedish fish, pixie sticks were good but not my favorite.

Great to hear about the different types from across the pond !

Loved Pixy Sticks - esp. the large plastic straw ones.

I think they still make them and they were a fave of Mom's - Chick-O-Sticks. Crispy peanut butter and toasted coconut.
