There was an article in the newspaper about 10 days ago about a new cat animal rescue place. It sounded interesting so I filled out a volunteer app and had orientation last night.
This lady had been rescuing cats and taking care of them for about 12 yrs-it was getting too much so she formed a non profit last fall. The set up is pretty good-she has some Katrina cats too!!. The intake area in attached garage to be vetted before moving over to adopt building. Lots of clean large cages, many baskets, toys, litter boxes, etc... Then a fenced outside area with another smaller building for the indoor/outdoor cats that have spraying issues (inside adopt building now due to cold weather).
She needs some help organizing supplies and stuff (my fav!!)
So I have to volunteer the co-ordinators to get on the schedule. No pregnant momma kitties yet-I volunteered to foster those!!
They are really strict on santitation too which is good.
The only bad thing is Neil said don't be being any home for good. (I'll have to work on that!)

Yay! I many cases, it's not difficult to leave the cats at the shelter as you know the perfect home will come along...but have no worries, there is always that one cat you just "click" with...mine is a deaf girl name Isabelle who has no balance due to an inner ear infection(whcih caused the deafness).
Now those ones are hard not to bring home!

that's awesome!
Congrats!
I love volunteering, although I don't volunteer at a rescue, I volunteer at a no-kill shelter that has dogs and cats.
It's very rewarding and I know you'll love it.
and we are very strict on sanitation as well.
