A kinda weird question

I have a weird question and I hope someone here might know the answer.

Does drinking milk cause a lot of phleem (sp) to build up?

The reason I am asking this is our dog Opie drinks milk. He loves it. He thinks everytime I open the refrigerator I am supposed to give him some milk, and I usually do because he looks at me with sad eyes.

Anyways I have noticed that he coughs a lot, he doesn't have heartworms or nothing, we have had him checked.

I was chatting with some internet friends the other night and one of the people mentioned that milk causes phleem (sp). If it does, I was wondering if there was anything else I could give Opie instead of milk. I just don't wanna quit giving that to him, he just seems to love it so much.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Belinda...I have no idea. The only help I can give you is with the spelling:

phlegm

I hope someone can help out your sweet Opie

I didn't either Belinda! I thought I had it correct, so I Googled it and it corrected me!

Once again, I hope Opie is feeling better soon

Have a look at this, Belinda. I think it's quite accurate:

Opie is a dog though, I just don't wanna quit giving him the milk unless I have to. He doesn't get sick or anything, he just seems to cough.

Belinda, have you asked a vet about this?

I know when I had a cold my Mom would never let me have Milk...because of the phlegm issue, it could easily be the same with dogs.

For sure it does in people..I don't see why dogs would be different..they have saliva just like we do. Maybe double check with your vet B.

There was an opera singer on TV yesterday, who said she can't eat dairy for two days before an engagement because it causes mucus in the throat.

Hmmm, yeah I have a singer friend who also stays away from dairy before his performances.
