I truly believe that there is a special place in heaven for people like you-I too work at a vets office as a tech and see the same situations on a daily basis. That is how I ended up with 8 of my own kitties. I understand how hard it is to see a normally healthy animal get put to sleep because of money concerns. Luckily my vet is a little more leniant about the dollar amount when it comes to the employees. Right now we have a very old, little, black female kitty who was brought in by animal control because of hypothermia-we have had below freezing temps for the last few weeks and she was ice cold. Animal control wanted to put her to sleep because they did not want or think that they would find an owner and she is soo old. All of us as techs could not stand to see that happen, just because they were too lazy to find her owners! So we talked them into letting us keep her and treat her-it is going to be a little costly but we are all splitting the bill and she will be able to go home first part of next week with one of the other girls. I am glad that you took the step to make sure that he was able to see his entire life through-I also understand how hard it must be already at your house with all the special needs animals, which too can get pretty pricey. I have a household of special needs as well-Melody only has 1 kidney and is prone to pancreatitis and also has Herpes, Uno only has one eye, asthma, food allergies and a little seperation anxiety, Allie too has Herpes and then there is little 9 month old Squeeker who was rescued from a house fire and has suffered some neurological side effects-he has horrible seizures and is not the most steady on his feet-he is on several medications a day and we see the specialist atleast every other month-yes I do understand your situation. Whatever you choose to do with the little guy, atleast he will know you saved his life and he had someone who cared enough to make him better and for that I applaud you!
Keep up the wonderful work and I will see you in the poor house!
