what does this mean???

what does this mean? :-) and :-( i think i have those right. i have discovered internet spades in windows and you can chat at the bottom just by selecting a message. i was up until 3 am playing!!!! i am not very computer savvy. so just wondeing what these mean. (i might not even have them right)
