Ok, I am very new here, in fact this is my very first post. I have a question.....I have a 8 month old kitten and a 4 year old cat and I can't seem to get them to eat thier own food. Neo (the cat) prefers the kitten food and Betty Boop (the kitten) prefers the cat food! I have tried switching the bowls, switching the spots where the bowls are but they are too smart for me! I know that kittens should be on kitten food until they are a year old and I am worried that it is going to stunt her growth or something. There are no ill effects thus far, she is shiny, slender and very, very active but you never know. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanx so much!

If Neo isn't overweight you could feed them both the kitten food until Betty Boop reaches adulthood. At that point you could feed them both adult kitty food.

Welcome to TCS

Or you could feed them both adult food. 8 months is old enough to go onto adult food, imo. I switched mine from kitten to adult food at about that age. As someone mentioned on another thread, there is no kitten food in nature. And for years there was no kitten food in pet shops.

My two kitties are about the same age as yours and I'm having the same problem. Then my adult cat started to show blood in her stools so the vet prescribed the Science Diet i/d food. It's supposed to be a bland diet but the kitten seems to like it more than his canned Chicken Soup Kitten food.

I just can't wait until the kitten is old enough for both of them to eat the same food. Since the kitten is a ragdoll breed and they mature slower than domestic cats, I don't want to take him off the kitten food too early. Even though he seems to be eating more adult food now, at least he gets some kitten growth food. They are so funny about wanting to eat each other's food. My adult cat would have never touched wet food before this little guy came along.

I have a 10 month old which I have had on kitten food all his life and a cat that is 2-3 years old that I adopted a month ago. Sine the adult liked the kitten food fine, I just let them both eat it out of the same tray. But now I am wanting to switch Persi over to adult food so I am adding like just about ten percent adult and 90 percent kitten food and they do not seem to notice the small difference. I will do that several days and then change over to about 20 percent adult and 80 percent kitten until I reach the 100% adult food and have the kitten food run out about the same time with neither one of them noticing because I am doing it so slowly over a long period of time. So far, so good.
