Doesn't understand the meaning of communication? My boss asks me today if I've been tracking a project I've been working on. What I really wanted to say was , "Well no because #1 you keep dumping more work on my & I'm just trying to get my work done without adding to it & #2 you did not tell me you wanted me to track what I was doing. I know I'm very smart, but no where in my job description does it say I need to be a mind reader." This is the 2nd or 3rd time he's done this type of thing to me & he's only been my boss since December.

Here's a stupid question:

If this is the 2nd or 3rd time he's done this to you, why not make it a point from here out to track EVERY project that you are doing?

That way you will always be able to answer that particular question, and that will look good in your boss' eyes.

There is little to no communication where I work.

Usually you have to find out the information from someone else other than your boss here.

Its funny you mention this right now..

Last week, my boss said "on Thursday I am going to get you to type up some letters for me"...Well, Thursday passed by, and now its Monday and he calls me into his office this morning to say "you were supposed to remind me to do those letters"...I said "uh, no you didn't say to remind you, you said that I would type them up for you..so I was waiting for you to give them to me to type".

Then he gave me this condescending look that I was being a smartass or something.

COME ON, your an adult!! First of all, can you not remember to do things on your own? Second, You never said "remind me"...EVER!!

Right now until i can find another job (i'm hoping i get the one at the animal shelter!) I have several bosses. One over floral- Dottie, (i'm the assistant manager) / and one over customer service - Jim those are the two main ones that affect me. Dottie is a sweetheart- we get along REALLY well and design very well together- i love that boss. / Jim on the other hand is incredably forgetfull. He's very nice- always considerate and all always ask how your day is going- but he ALWAYS forgets thing which makes it frusterating. I swear i have to write things down and remind him 50 times a day

I write down exactly what I do every day (except going on TCS) just so I have an answer to the inevitable question "What have you done on this project" I hate when I leave things out and the boss point out things I should have done when I actually had done them but didn't mention it. This way I cover my arse.

Ahh the joys of bosses. My situation was a little different. I was able to read his mind(he was so transparent). He wanted me to do his job and mine. He rarely followed up. Don't do what I did!

My boss reassigned me to another boss on Friday and didn't bother to tell me that I now work for someone else. Go figure - none of them know how to communicate!

I do so much in a day that if I kept track of it well I'd cry because they don't pay me enough, but also it would take up way too much of my time. I worked for the same woman for almost 8 years & knew exactly what she wanted, so maybe this is just part of adjusting to a new boss.

Personally I think Bosses and the way they act and the way we feel about them are relics, a socal structure that was once nesscary millions of years ago, when humans didnt even do the most basic human things like wear clothes or cry, or even hunt for food with spears. Think of the early homids that were as big as Lucy http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...ilies/wink.gif. I wish humans would evolve out of that, it onlty hurts us in the end.http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...s/rolleyes.gif. I hate it when my supervisior jokes with coworkes about how the supervisers always right num1, and if it comes to num 2 go back to num 1. Nobuddy is always right everybuddy makes mastakes thats a part of being human to think so and act so thats it isnt reality is very immuture. ( just my humble opinion.)

Gentually I treat my boss well and do watever he/she tells me though tell myself sercetly that I'm the leader of my life and that to talk to him/her about issues or problems that come up in the workplace is the right thing to do.http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...ilies/wink.gif

Yeah, I see your point, but I've learned that often the thing that makes sense isn't the best way to get things done.

We have SOPs where I work that spell out specific roles, responsibilities, etc. Technically, you are required to follow the SOP and if you don't, you have to fill out an SOP violation form, etc. You would think that people would at least get THIS part of their job done right, but that's often not the case. I often find that I am hand holding others at work BUT to my boss it's called being "proactive".
