Well we are all under advisory's here in PA well Pittsburhg at least and all of the surronding areas for a horrible storm they are saying, were I am at we are supposed to get 4-8 inches but that keeps going up and down and we are supposed to get most of the snow tuesday into weds also within the snow we are supposed to get alot of freezing rain too, and well my county is under a winter storm watch until wed at 6 pm!!! It started snowing at around 4 am and well the news wasnt off that bad they said after 5 am, and well its almost 6 am and the salt crews already came through 2 times !!! Snow is so pretty so maybe I will take pictures but it has to be freshly fallen and well its just to cold outside
at least we arent in single digit temps anymore
so this storms heading our way, anyone else expecting or already got this storm????? See from wat I caught on the news a few days ago down south it was raining and from the west and north it was snowing and well its all meeting up here

There's no place like home
It rained all day yesterday here, then turned to snow last night. It dropped down to 18 degrees so the rain froze, then it snowed about 5 inches on top of that. We're not going to bother to shovel the snow as its easier to drive over the snow than scrape it away and drive on ice.

Yup - it's an icky mess out there right now! I'm going to work from home today (thank heavens I have that option).

We're getting the snow right now; started late last night, and I'd guess there's about 6" on the ground so far. School's been cancelled for today. My 17 y/o will be bored to tears, altho' she's supposed to go to work at 3 pm. I'm hoping they call and tell her not to bother coming in. We still have ice everywhere from a storm that came thru a couple of weeks ago. Guess I'll have to get out there with the snow blower pretty soon. Ugh.

We've got what is heading your way now. We're in a blizzard warning, visibility is crud, and more snow keeps falling. They anticipate at least 12" of snow by the end of today.

And guess what? Purdue University is operating as usual. This means that unless professors cancel classes, students have to attend. Students should not be out in this weather.

I already had a vacation day scheduled, otherwise I'd have to call in. Almost everything is closed, except the big stores (Walmart, Target, Meijer...). My Dr. even called me 20 minutes before the office usually opens to cancel my appt since the office would be closed.

I really hope that it's not as bad for you! Keep warm and try not to drive if you don't have to!!!

If you are not experienced/comfortable driving in this type of weather this is what I recommend.
Have car filled with gas/wind washer fluid topped off too (have extra on hand).
Carry a blanket, spare hat, mittens, snowbrushes, scarf , pants (or sweatpants) and good winter boots or at lease an extra pair of athlectic shoes. This is always in out vehicles just in case one goes in ditch and has to be pulled out (I've had this done 3 times!!) Drive accordng to conditions not as some drivers are much to fast on the roads in snowy conditions.
Also carry a towel/paper towels too.
Have your snow blowers all gassed up too.
6-12" while alot isn't a really big deal up in WI as we probably have more snow plows and salt to keep the roads clear. But the plows can only do so much-blowing snow if they can't keep up the highway depts will pull the plows off the roads/
Enjoy!!!!

Great suggestions!!!

Personally, it's not me driving I'm worried about...I grew up in NW Indiana...land of lake effect snow. 12" was a normal snowfall there, so I can drive in snow. The issue is the other drivers, who have not had to deal with this much snow. lol

But, I keep candles, matches, a road flare, water, non-perishable food items (thanks Dad!), and a huge blanket in my trunk. I need to throw a bag of salt in there too (not to weigh it down, but just in case). Before I head out, DH checks all fluids to make sure that they are topped off (and that the washer fluid is not frozen).

We got what's headed your way too, although so far it's not as bad as they predicted. Had a few inches of snow overnight and now freezing rain. More expected later, but whether it's ice or snow depends the temp.

Stay safe everybody!

Yes, it was just lovely driving into work this morning! I work in Pittsburgh, but actually live about 60 miles away in the mountains to the east, so I actually had more snow at home when I left than there is in the city right now. I think I will probably be leaving early today because they are calling for freezing rain and sleet later today on top of the snow. AND, at home they are calling for a snow total of 10-16" by late tomorrow afternoon! I was watching the news all morning before I left home and saw all the schools closing, but did the university where I work close????? NO, OF COURSE NOT!!!!! Oh well, I grew up in the mountains with a lot of snow, so I am used to driving in it, so I will just take my time and be extra careful. But if there is ice on the roads tomorrow morning, all bets are off - I don't drive on ice!!!!

We're supposed to be on the extreme northern end of it so not too much snow, but we'll see.....the wind is what is going to make my ride miserable.
Salt trucks here get the roads clear pretty good if it is not too cold but that wind blowing across turns it to ice quickly.

It's already snowing in Philly. Supposed to be a light coating then more this afternoon and the heavier stuff tonight with ice.

Purdue had to close campus down because the city declared a snow emergency. It was announced that anyone out on the roads unecessarily could be ticketed. Guess the President of the University didn't want a bunch of angry people calling demanding he pay for their tickets, lol.

We're not required to return to work until tomorrow, at noon (at the earliest).

While we have none of this snow its very windy and while actually much warmer than in the past week (17F) the windy makes it feel alot colder than that!! I think it felt warmer with the below zero temps last week!!

We currently have 5 or 6 inches of snow, plus about 2 inches of ice on top. You can walk on the top of it in some places without going through!

School closed today at 1:30, and my work called me and said not to come in since they were closing a little after 12. So I took a nap, which was AWESOME because I was up til 3 doing homework the past two nights.

I feel so bad for anybody who has to drive in this crud. It's awful. The main roads are covered in this gross watery snowy glop, which is going to freeze in the morning... Snow would be easier. This is an ice storm. It's been icing for almost 12 hours now. About half the cars I did see on the road were sliding and fishtailing.

Oh, and a huge water main broke and a bunch of cars next block over are actually frozen to the street in a foot of ice.
