Well I just got home from visiting the animal shelter, and saw a bunch of adorable kittens and cats up for adoption. they range from 4 1/2 months to 4 yrs. Mostly male, which I found a bit odd though. My heart sank when I saw all those lovely little fur babies looking for a loving home, I wanted to adopt them all, but couldnt. I fell in love with 2 kittens though.
One is female, spayed, still has claws, is a calico tiger (mostly white with some tiger markings), and is about 6 months old, and playful. She had a sibling already go home.
The other, is male, not spayed (bit young yet for spaying), 41/2 months, not de clawwed, grey, and looks like a calico too. I had him eating out of my hand, and is very playful.
My heart sank, they both were purring when I held them, and the grey one was licking my hand. It was a bit funny, as I was holding the female, a family came in looking for a kitten and brought the male out. He was a bit over playful, nad nipped one of the kids, and took a swat at another, scaring the kids and making one not want him. But once I got him in my arms he was fine.
Looks like if one is available on Wednesday, I will be bringing one home if not both (if available). We shall see, I have to go through a screen test and chat for 15 - 20 minutes before I get the cat, but do not foresee any problems there. Here's hoping.

I could get them both, and not really worry much seeing as one is fixed, but I am one for taking extra precautions, so would get the other done too. I would get both seeing as I cannot decide between the 2. Both are adorable. But both have to be available. If only one is available, then my decision is easy.

oh, definitely get the other fixed. he's a male, right? otherwise, he'll be spraying smelly tom-cat pee everywhere when he reaches sexual maturity. trust me, you do not want that!
2 kitties are always more fun than one!
we'll be waiting for
!

will get the male fixed yes. I would even get a $60 surgical credit for doing it too. It was funny, the female cat hissed when she saw other cats, and she came in with a sibling. I thought that it would have been the other way around. But both are cute and sooooooooo adorable. And pics would follow as soon as I could get them. But hopefully this time I can adopt, there was no cats there 2 weeks ago, they were all adopted.

I just thought of a question, and I know I will get an answer here. If i was fortunate to be able to adopt both kittens that have my interest, I would need to get a second litter box correct? and if so, would it be fine to have them side by side, or should they be spaced apart?

I think it might depend on whether or not they (cats) get along. May want to space them out...also is it a well ventilated area where you will be keeping them if you are to keep them together?

I have always put the litter box in the storage room. Have a bit of space in there for an extra litter box. I think the cats would get along, even though the female did hiss when she saw the other cats. It would just take time. Will have to wait and see for wednesday though. But hoping i can get one or the other, if not both.

Good luck, I hope it all goes well!

I also noticed you remarked on them having their claws and being not declawed. Do you plan to declaw them?

Edit: I remember your story now, ignore the declawing question....

if was funny, the family that came in to look at the cats, asked about declawing, and I told them that I would not declaw the cat(s). when asked about why not, I remarked with "how would you like to have your fingers taken away from you at the first knuckle"? I also mention about surgical trauma the cat could go through. So thanks all for informing me, and allowing me to try and educate others.

just hoping they both are not gone by wednesday. the worker said adoptions are a bit slow, so they may very well be there on wednesday. Here's hoping, and If I get them, I will definately be celebrating.

at my house, i have 3 boxes & 4 cats. one box is in a closet by itself. the other two are in the same closet, basically side-by-side, altho there's enough room between them for me to stand & change/scoop/etc. those 2 are the preferred boxes. i have to empty the containers at least once a week [mine are all littermaids] as opposed to once a month for the other box. i'd say room to walk between the boxes for the cats would be plenty of room.
