My sweet little Moses is being tested right now for FIP and Liver disease. If Moses has liver disease he will survive, if he has FIP we will have to put him to sleep this afternoon. They will know the results of their tests this afternoon. I need prayer for Moses that he doesn't have FIP. The doctors say they just aren't sure and that his signs go 50/50 for one or the other.

FIP is a virus that causes his body to create fluid that infiltrates the body and eventually death. It is transferable from a mother to kitten, but it is unclear whether Moses could have transfered it to my other kitty, Steven. So keep Steven your prayers as well. Thanks very much.

Lots of prayers coming your way

Anne, the owner of this site replied to a thread about a similar thing, I have quoted her reply here for you as not all cats with FIP/FeLV/FIV have to be put to sleep, it might be worth thinking about or discussing
All the best to you and yours

QUOTE:

some vets sometimes advise people to put down cats that are FeLV or FIV positive or even what they call FIP positive (which cannot actually be tested for as such).

In case other people with FeLV or FIV positive cats read this thread in the future, I just wanted to say that there is no need to put down those cats. These cats can have years and years of good quality life ahead of them. It's sad that the shelter won't take them in, though I can certainly see their point - they don't want this virus spreading to other cats. What these cats need is to live either as the only cats in the household or with other FeLV positive cats.

Rhea!! I am so glad you posted that quote by Anne, I was just going to go look for it to post here myself!!!

Snipboy...please look into this before you have Moses put down, as there is alot of good information on this site and from what I have read, there is really no need to have him put to sleep if he does have FIP.

I will say a prayer for both your kitties...keep us posted!!!

Everything I've read about FIP tells me he has to be put down if he has the wet kind. I am so upset.

Snipboy...I don't know much about FIP, but you might want to PM Anne or Hissy and ask them about it, they would know if it is indeed necessary to have him put down if it is the wet kind. They know much more about this than I do.

We got the final tests back today and it looks like he indeed has has FIP. The vet gave him two weeks to live. However, he is not in any pain, according to the vet. She said he will reach a point where he won't be interested in eating anymore and at that time we should bring him in to cross the bridge. There will always be a concern that Steven might get it as well, as he has been exposed as well. We should know if he got it from Moses within the next year or so.

Thanks for your prayers. Please still pray for a miracle. If God can make fools of human doctors, he certainly can of vets.
