Wellness is re-vamping their dry cat foods (kinda like they did with the dry dog foods about a year ago, but they actually did feeding trials this time, so hopefully it will go better for the kitties than it did for the dogs!)

I think the new formulas look pretty good, and they're formulated to maintain Urinary Tract health, which is nice. I'm especially excited about the new "Core" grain free formula, as it's supposed to be less rich than EVO, and easier for some cats to handle. They don't have the ingredients for this formula up just yet that I could find, but it shouldn't be long.

What do you all think?

Is it just me, or did the new formula get more... grainy?

(The wet food isn't changing, just the dry. They added rice to two of the canned formulas a few months ago, but the others remained grain free as always).

Edited to add: most of you who disliked wellness previously should be happy, there is no garlic in any of the new formulas!

OOOH I am interested in trying the CORE (with Boomer and Magnum for now), it will probably be easier to find than EVO around here

I did find the ingredients for the CORE (by clicking on a link on the left hand side menu)
Deboned Turkey, Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Whitefish Meal, Potatoes, Salmon Meal, Natural Chicken Flavor. Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, a natural source of Vitamin E), Tomato Pomace, Cranberries, Chicory Root Extract, Salmon Oil, Flaxseed, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Thiamine Mononitrate, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B-12 Supplement), Choline Chloride, Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Manganese Sulfate, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Yucca Schidigera Extract, Dried Kelp, Taurine, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Enterococcus Faecium, Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Rosemary Extract.

Duh... I think this cold is affecting my brain functions... I should have found that! LOL

CORE is also lower in fat than EVO. 18% vs 22% another bonus. Plus by looking at those ingredients, there is a LOT of meat

I hope they get it in here. I feed wellness but they do not have all the different flavors. So we'll see.

If your store carries only one variety, ask them if they can bring in the others with that order. It's not hard to bring in additional flavours. If they hesitate, ask them if they can bring in samples for you to try, and if your cats like it, you can promise them you'll buy it
(Wellness samples should be free for them to order, so I don't see why they'd say no to that!)

Even if they're only carrying the blue variety, you'll be switching to the new blue variety in no too long. They've got to bring in new bags as they sell off older stock. They don't have a choice anymore

Definately a good direction but I for one am not thrilled with regular potatos and so much fish .... so far Raw intict gets my low carb vote//// waiting on Solid gold ( dog reformulated is just finding my local stores ) ... Dog so far prefers Ultra small breed

Two small stores have told me that samples are not free to the store .... This was on several brands not wellness

It may be different with different suppliers, but Wellness charges us a penny for a box of samples. A penny. lol Infact we get most of our samples for free... Innova, Solid Gold, Wellness, Wysong, and our raw foods... the only ones we don't get for free are the one lb sample bags that customers either fill out a coupon to get for free or pay $2.99.

I get really annoyed with other stores in the area who get these foods from the same suppliers as we do, and charge for samples. I love giving out samples to people, as it's a good way to get them to try great foods, and it makes them happy that they're getting something for free

My local store gives out free samples (or has you fill out a coupon)

If you want a sample and they don't have it, and they know you, they will even open a bag and fill a ziplock bag for you to try before you buy. Since I got them to bring EVO in they gave out some samples and now have quite a few regular EVO buyers and have also brought in some of the other non grain alternatives (Orijen and Serengetti)

The pet store I have started going to doesn't give out samples. They have almost every type of food that I have read about here. They will take back dry food that has been opened and unopened cans of wet food for full credit though. It seems like samples of dry food would be cheaper for them.
