Can you remember back when fancy hotels used to smooth all the sand out in the lobby ashtrays and put their monogram? How about you? Do you monogram the sand in the litterbox? I think it is only fair!

If i do it i try to get all the bits and make it nice and tidy (Charlie and Jaz use the chalky clumping stuff but they are outdoor (in at night) cats so it isnt used much) Cleo has the recycled paper pellets and she LOOOVES to use them. Even though she cant see, her 'fresh litter' bells go off and she christens it!! *grumble*

Jeremy is the litterbox caretaker in this house.
And the girls won't let him smooth it over.
Anytime brand new litter goes in, the girls all race to pee in it before the boys can, even if they only go a few drops.
Cats are weird people.

I travel a bit but I haven't seen any monograms in the ashtrays. I think it is because when I see the ashtrays, they already got a bunch of butts stuck in them!

I scoop, smooth and shake. Do you think I am over doing it? My husband tried to change it once and Karma hit him. Now he won't bother to touch it.

When I change it to clean litter I use my hands to smooth it. Ilike to make sure her little paws wont get hurt. You never know how a clump my feel. Plus I use pine pelets and I don't want them to poke her.

I thought I was only one who smoothed out with my hand
I always smooth with the scoop and my hand. (And give hand a good scrubbing, even though we use Feline Pine, which is pretty clean pellets).

IA. If you need me, just meow..
I clean ours out twice a day, smoothing it each time, (it's a necessity or it isn't clean to me.) Then once a week, I clean out the boxes with Method dish washing soap and refill with new litter. Speaking of which, they are due for a good scrubbing.

I build up pthe litter slightly along the sides, since nine times out of ten, thats where he goes..it gives him more to dig in. but yeah, i make sure that its tidy looking, so I can see if he's been in there - I just also make sure the sides are a bit higher than the middle part.

Me, too. It's easy to tell if the box has been used if the litter is smooth. I never considered doing anything else.
