On our business line I answer everything and am not very nice to the telemarketer who will not remove my number from his list

While I often don't bother answering our home phone, I always answer my cell, because only a few people actually have the number, and know that it's primarily for very important matters. Caller ID is great!

I don't have a cell phone, but I always answer my home phone, if it is someone trying to sell me something and they ask for me, I just tell them that I am not there.

I will say that my parents are using the internet to call me since they're out of the country... and when they call their number shows up as either Private or some 000 number.

And on that note, I gave my cell phone number to the parents of my students so at times they call so sometimes I will answer if I don't recognize the number. But I'd rather they leave a voicemail and then I could call them back... just in case.

I don't answer if I don't know the number. A couple years ago there was a person who would call my cell phone like 5 times a day and left me messages every time for someone with a different name. I never answered because of the kind of things she would leave on my voicemail. Whoever she was trying to reach, she apparently did not like. I also had someone leave a message on my phone for someone named Nicole before. My name is Rena...sounds nothing like nicole.
I hate when people do that.

Love caller ID, too.

I was most perturbed this morning by one "unknown caller - unknown number" this morning. Called 3 times in a half hour. I was so tempted to answer and use a few choice words.

Eithne, check out the CRTC regs regarding telemarketers. I probably wouldn't even be aware of much of this stuff, except that a number of years ago, we had a lot of trouble with telemarketing fax calls to our voice line -- many of them in the wee small hours. It prompted us to do our homework on what was permitted and how to get problems dealt with. Rob had lots of conversations and correspondence with Telus and the CRTC, and has logs upon logs of stuff. But the problem did get solved, and one of the upshots of all that was that we got Caller ID. The regs have been tightened up even more since then, I see.

I can't stand people who keep calling an obviously wrong number either! Or those who don't leave messages. Esp when they call my house, my cell, my house again...etc....and no message! I'm not answering the darn phone already people! And the more you call...the more I don't want to talk to you! If were important, you'd leave a message!

For almost 2 years after I got my cell I kept getting calls for some guy...and these people would leave messages after it clearly said my name too! Apparently the dude had some kind of repair business I found out after one of those messages. People would call and finally I started answering since my v-mail wasn't giving them the hint...and they'd be totally rude!

One call I answered went something like:

Them: Is John there?
Me: I'm sorry you have the wrong number.
Them: Nicki! (In a really rude voice) Just put John on the phone!
Me: Excuse me but you really do have the wrong number. Don't call again.

I was in the bathroom at my college during this conversation...wonder what the other people in there thought! That wasn't the only call like that either. I've had that number about 6 years now and fortunately they've taken the hint!

Yep, same here. I do it at work quite a bit too because I seem to get a lot of telemarketers. Fortunately we have caller ID on our phones, so if the name/number looks familiar or I'm expecting a call I can pick it up.

Nope. Sometimes I don't even answer if I know who is calling.

I have to be on the phone most of the day at work, so I really don't like talking on the phone anymore.

Same thing totally happened to me....only my chicka didnt get the hint. Something like this

Them: Can I please talk to Jason
Me: Im sorry, you must have the wrong number, this is my cell phone, and Im clearly not a Jason
Them: Well is this 905-mycell#?
Me: Um...yes?
Them: Well then put Jason on the phone.
Me: There is no Jason.
Them: (Yelling) Listen Bi$%#. He will always be mine, and youd be wise to learn that now. So put him on the phone.
Me: Youre crazy. Crazy. Dont call here again.
*Hangup*
Same number kept calling like 10 times a day so I had a male friend answer:
Male friend: Hello?
Them: Is Jason there
Male friend: This is Jason
Them: This is NOT jason. I know his voice, so dont even try to mess with me. Put Jason on the phone...
(Im in the background in hysterics, shes YELLING, I can hear this, dont need my friend to tell me whats being said)
Male Friend: Listen I guess you still havnt got the point that no matter how many times you call here, theres never going to be *your* Jason on the other end. Im guessing he changed his number because you harassed him so much. Guys dont like girls like this.
*Hang Up*

AND GET THIS- SHe still called like 10x a day for about a week and then gave up.

SO in sum, yes I do answer random calls, because they coudl be as hilarious as that one. But if I answer it once I note the number and dont answer it if I see same number calling again! (and again, and again....)

oh yea, and 2 nights ago at 140 am, my home phone rings. I run out of bed to answer it because I think :call at 1:40, something has happened. No its some guy with the wrong number. Sorry he says.
Then calls back 3 more times. I answered on the third and was like "Its still the wrong number, and id like to go back to bed now." He was super apologetic but GEEZ

Similar thing happened after I got my cell phone. someone kept calling for a Jenney, but I wouldn't recognize the voice or the caller.

Anyhoo, I dialed the area code for that exchange one day (the Land Line version) and turns out there was a "Jenny" at the other end.
I got her voicemail and said "Hi, this is the other Jenney. Most of those dates you went on called for you at my number. Don't even date them again."
