DH thinks he stuffed up his withholding tax.... so we're possibly going to get a big ol' tax bill

We're only new to the US - in Australia they automatically deduct the correct amount of tax for you. Over here in the US you say what you want deducted.

So I put 0 or maybe 1 as my withholding, whatever the maximum amount is that gets withheld. DH seems to have put 4 down.

Now we have no idea what this means for us, but it sounds quite bad...

He put 4? I put 2 for some odd reason and i have to pay. It really stinks! 0 is the max. You will probably have to pay. Hopefully it isn't much.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I put 0 down then.

I can't believe he put 4 down. He earned heaps last year because it included our relocation bonuses, and other relocation reimbursements, which makes his "salary" triple figures - even though we really didn't even see a lot of it! This is going to suck

Yuck! That does suck! They do have a payment plan if you can't afford it and you can file for an extension too.

Can you itemize and will you be able to deduct moving expenses??
Since we always have to pay in we withhold extra of the the paychecks so the tax bill won't be so large.
