Can you BELIEVE the woman gave a thirty CENT tip.
I wouldn't want my name put out there either. Talk about the ultimate cheapskate.

Kudo's to the cabbie for being so honest.

IMO, she owes him a lot more than 100$...

30 cents is a little bit insulting. Cabs are not a necessity, they are a luxury, and if you can't afford to tip you can't get one. Just like going out to eat. I tip at LEAST 30% unless the person does something so bad I'd probably ask to talk to their manager.

But, I'm also not surprised at the guy. There never really was any temptation, since he didn't know about the diamonds until after he'd already brought the luggage back to the place and opened it with somebody else.

It's really sad that we find it astounding that someone would return lost property... It's what we should do! But, I guess a lot of people would have kept it.

Would you guys have returned it?

Heck yes, I would have returned it.

Most certainly would have returned it and salute the taxi driver for doing the right thing

I would have returned it. But I can't believe how ungrateful this woman is seeming. I mean he just returned DIAMONDS after you left him a measly 30 cents as a tip. So she wrote him a check for $100. Barely enough to cover the money he lost trying to find her!

Is this new? I heard about this or something very, very similar happening several years ago.

this isa new case. I remember the other story too. But I think the person was more generous to the cabby that returned their valuables.

I just saw this on my homepage this morning.
What an honest guy he is 30 cent tip and he hunts her down and give back the diamonds.

As far as the $100...frankly I think the least she could have done was add another zero to the end of that amount!

The report says that the woman said she is a jeweler. So those 31 rings do not belong to her personally. I don't know about jewelers where you folks live, but around here they do not have a lot of personal wealth. Their businesses have a high value of their inventory, but that does not mean that she is financially able to pay a lot of money out of her pocket.

I didn't know that she was a jeweler. I find it even stranger that she was carrying around 31 diamond rings in a bag in that case.

You know what? I am happy to see honest people still out there.

There are so many times that I forget something and sure enough its gone.

The world is to the point that even if I leave my bookbag at my desk for break I'm always leary that it won't be there when I get back.

I can't judge the woman who for some reason seemed short on cash..But, HOORAY for the cabbie!! What a fine sport he was

heck no, pawn shop here we come!!!!!!
lol no i would have returned it also. As for the tip, we dont know how much money the women really has. and also those diamonds where not really hers.

I would have returned them too, it's the right thing to do. Kudos to the cabbie. It's nice to see a good story, there just aren't enough of them.

As much as I would be tempted to keep it I simply couldn't. When I was in college I found a wallet with a few hundred dollars in cash. It took me a while but I was able to track down the guy and give it back to him. He didn't give me a reward, but at least I know that HE thinks there are honest people left on this earth. That was reward enough for me.

I don't have alot of money either, but there is no way I would give a $.30 cent tip, come on now. That is just sooooo cheap. And it is the reason she did not want her name put out there, you can bet on that.

When we were kids we found a lost kitten and returned her to her parents. They gave us a lot of candy and some money as reward, our moms made us give the money back but we enjoyed the candy!

Good for the guy! I found money in an atm before and gave it back to the bank. I hope whoever it was for got it back, but at least I did the right thing.

Diamonds have serial #s engraved in them (what I know from CSI!). So if the cabbie did steal the diamonds, he could end up in a mess of trouble if the serial #s eventually got traced back to him.

Wierd the woman would forget a suitcase full of rings in a cab? I wonder how often she loses her wallet?
