Strange Reaction

Mandarin Orange had the strangest reaction to two paint brushes rubbed together?????
Normally he absolutely LOVES my paint brushes. He steals them from where ever he can find them. He even takes the ones with plastic on them and chews the plastic off....
My husband was playing with him with one brush and then grabbed two of them and rubbed them together in front of him...... Kitty started hissing and spitting and got all freaked out....husband takes one brush away he goes back to normal...brings the second one around same thing ...... Kitty started hissing and spitting and got all freaked out again....TOOO WEIRD....
Anyone else see this kind of reaction????

For some reason the rubbing noise made him think of something he normally would be scared of,ie, dog (or any other animal, including people), fire, etc.Many cats are scared of crackling paper noises while others love them, fizzing noises resemble another cat hissing (all of mine get scared of opening a soda can for instance) whistling noises, boiling water noises, etc, etc..it is quite normal he reacted like that but don't upset him, try not to do it again.
I'd be concerned he chews off plastic tips, all cats I've had and have chewed up pencils etc but they can swallow little pieces and that can be very bad.

It might even have set up a tiny static charge that you couldn't feel, but that he did.

Yes, also that..kitties senses are more acute than ours.

I'm sorry that I have absolutely nothing relevant to contribute, but I must say that I think Mandarin Orange a great name for a cat.

P.S. I'm from Winnipeg. Where in Manitoba are you from?

Living in Steinbach area....30 min away from you.....Mandarin Orange got his name because he use to sleep in the Mandarin Orange boxes...we got him in Oct so he was small enough around Christmas to fit in them....Although he still tries to get in them now he just too big....ha ha ha
