HELP!

ZhaZha seems to be wanting to chew on everything. She is right at 7 months old --- is she teething?

I know at this age with dogs it's normal behavior as they are still trying to loose their puppy teeth and get their adult teeth in, is it the same with cats?

What can I do to stop her from chewing?

She has several toys out, dry food, and I went tonight and got her some dog rawhide (read about some owners doing this) and she has just been carrying it around the house.

HELP --- I haven't to put everything away in closets so she won't chew it up. She has a big liking to the power cords as well!

Thanks everyone.

Some cats just love to chew...but kittens more so.

If she is chewing your electrical cords I suggest wrapping them with double sided sticky tape (you can get it at most pet stores)

You can also spray the things you don't want her to chew with "bitter apple" or I've seen "bitter cherry" spray.

She may still be teething, though I think they get their adult teeth in between 4 and 6 months. But kittens do love to chew! You do need to redirect this behavior.

As Miss Mew pointed out, do NOT let them chew on cords.

They sell "teething" toys at many pet stores. Chewy rawhide (like for dogs) is also OK to put out for them. But the thing all of our cats loved to chew on the most were bendy straws. They're made of a plastic that they can't really rip apart. When a straw gets "too chewed" up, toss it. But scatter them around everywhere.

Also, if kitty nips or bites at fingers, feet, or ankles, this behavior needs to be discouraged immediately. Blow a short, sharp puff of air in her face once or twice, say "No" and immediately stop whatever activity you were doing with her - ignore her. Or if she play attacked you while walking by - blow the short, sharp puffs, say "no," and keep going.

Hope this helps,

Laurie

I have cats that love to chew, 3 out of the 4. Actually I think one likes to chew and the others learned the behavior. As they get older 3 & 4 they chew less, but they still love to chew on paper.
