Sending "be healthy" vibes!

I hope all goes well. And like the others said - do your best to stay positive and I'm sure everything will be OK.

You've got great support, and there is great technology availale now. Mostly, I hope the cramps stop and soon!

Thankyou soo much for being soooo supportive everyone! I love how supportive and kind my friends are here on TCS!
The appointment went well today and I had a lot of my questions answered
I got to meet the new nurse practicioner at the practice there (she's working with my doctor). They were both just wonderful and sat me down and explained everything well to me. (It really helps to have such kind doctors/nurses who are uber supportive!
) They put it this way. - I have PCOS- i have a very bad case of it to the point that both ovaries are completly covered with the cysts- this is causing the cramping, heat flashes, aggervating my GI issues, and causing weird weight gain (which i am now working my butt off to loose
I was wondering why I went from a 0 to a beached whale in less than 6 months without drastic changes in my diet or exercise!
) Now i know! They said that with my specific case of PCOS it might be really hard to concieve- but that in no way means it's impossible. So that is hopefull! They said that the positives on my side are my age (i'm 21) and the facts that i'm working out and eating well and trying educate myself on this syndrome. There is no way that they will know for sure or not whether i will be able to concieve- so they said the best they can do is just monitor me and stay positive. They also told me that there are tons of new medicines out there that are helping women with PCOS concieve without having to resort to IVF! Many of which are just in pill form!!!
They said that those would be a wonderful option for me when that time rolls around if we have trouble concieving. Also- we talked about the Guardasil shot and decided it wasn't right for me since we plan on starting a family soon (and it takes a year and a half to get the shots and not much has been studied on them in the long run as far as fertility goes- i just don't feel safe getting that right now.) So since we're completly monogomus (sp?) and since we're going to attempt to start a family soon after we marry- it's just not a good fit for me. (haha now i just have to wait for Colin to pop the question
) He has been SOOOOO supportive lately! I swear- i am soo lucky and blessed to have him! He told me when i went to the doctor this morning to bring home phamplets/info on it so that he can read up too
I just know he's gonna be a great dad some day! / Also- my doctor FINALLY gave me a prescription for the cramping! It's completly safe and i can take it and still drive/work
/ They also told me to go ahead and start taking prenatal vitamins (i guess to help my body- I forgot why the told me to start taking them?- anyone know why?). So we are trying to stay positive at this point and really keep good spirits about this. It's SOOOOO sad and frusterating just even thinking that we might not be able to have children- but you know, there is always that possibility- and many happy stories of women who have gone on to have families with this....so i am gonna try to keep my chin up. Also- should we not be able to have our own children- Colin and I really have our hearts set on adoption a child in need once we're married and the time is right. (we had actually talked about adoption before we even found out i had pcos- we talked about adoption after we had a few kids). So that is the good news!!! ...but there is a bit of bad news- my cervix is tilted really weird it's almost sitting straight up- so that might cause problems. Also- they said my chances of becomming a diabetic between the PCOS (which makes me insulin resistant) and my Gastroparesis are astronomical. So that's really making me a bit nervous. I've already started to eliminate a lot of sugary things from my diet and substituting it with other things (but since i can't have splenda- makes me really sick) it's hard to do. So i'm really trying to eat healthy and exercise right to lower my chances of becomming diabetic. (diabetes also runs in my family -so i'm really trying to be careful and watch my food/sugar levels.) My doctor said that between the PCOS and Gastroparesis along with my other GI issues- there is a major chance that if we do concieve i will have gestational diabetes. So right now i'm just thinking that if that happens- we will cross that bridge when we get there....and i'll just try to eat healthy and do everything i can to lower my chances. Other than that though- my visit went extremely well. Both the N.P. and my doctor are wonderful ladies that really care about their patients- so it is good to have their support and to have them give me insight on these things. Overall -i suppose it's just a "wait and see" type thing since we never know what the future holds- so i am trying to just be positive and enjoy my life with Colin right now. We both agreed that with the PCOS it is better to start trying for a family as soon as we're married. So that's what we will be doing since the doctors said i had a bad case of it and that it will only get worse with age. She said that i definitely need to try and start my family before i'm 30. Also- she said that she is considering doing a complete hystroectomy after (if we are able to) we have our children so that my chances of reproductive cancers and further complications from PCOS are eliminated. I am all for a hystrocetomy after we start are family if we're able to- it seems to be the safe option for my health./ It is soo nice to have the love and support of all of you on here
Thankyou everyone for helping me look on the bright side
One way or another- Colin and I will have our family when the time is right and we're married.....and I definitely know this -ALL of you will make wonderful honoary aunts and uncles!!!

I'm sorry you have PCOS, but it seems that you've got a lot of support, not to mention us!
You can get through this Nikki....you're a smart girl, know how to take care of yourself, & you've got a wonderful man backing you up!

And you're not a beached whale!

There's lots of good news in there. !!! I know it could have been better news, but you have SUCH a great and positive attitude about this, no matter what happens, I just know things are going to work out just great!

...and it seems you have wonderful people to work with, and that helps boost the attitude and the confidence - and that goes SUCH a long way!

Just keep trying to take care of yourself, and it will work out for you. As i have said, i have no doubts at all that you will be a mother, and good one. When then time comes.
and coming from a person that used to be over 300 i doubt if you got that big

Thankyou- I appreciate that
/ Oh and about the beached whale thing- uhhh you shoulda been in the dressing room today!
Renae (my best friend) and I went shopping after my dr. appointment- and like always we went to Victorias Secret for a bit too- i was feeling soo whale like (totally not like me- usually i like or at least deal with my body reguardless and am positive about it) but man- today i felt like a beached whale. Sooo annoying! I didn't buy a thing today eithor - everything i tried on made me feel like a cupcake or a 5 pound of sugar in a 2 pound bag. Mirrors are evil

Thankyou Bruce- i appreciate that.
You're such a sweet friend. /And true- i've never hit 300....but i did gain a lot in the past 6 months and am feeling totally huge for my body size/frame. I've always been a teensy 0...and then gaining all that weight -for what seemed no apparent reason- now i know that pcos can cause unexplained weight gain...it's crazy! I lost a lot...but i still have a bit of a ways to go. It's frusterating because reguardless of a healthy diet and exercise i gained weight. It's just hard trying to loose it- but i guess i can't complain because i know lots of people are trying to as well.

Well, you've already discussed your future together, and it sounds as though you both want the same thing, and you want it together.

Sounds as though you should have kids sooner rather than later, and it'll take time to organise a wedding, get married, conceive, then actually HAVE kids... So yeah, I think this may be what he needs to get his act together

Ooooooh Valentine's Day is coming up!!!!!!

I am so glad that you got lots of information on what is wrong with you.

You are very positive about this, and I truely believe that helps.

I am sending some prayers and hugs from Mississippi for you and Colin, they are for Colin to pop the question soon.
