I just called the shelter and left a voicemail to follow-up on the application I left yesterday. They are open from 1pm-5pm so hopefully I'll hear something after lunch.

I do have a couple questions for you guys.

Is there anything I should be concerned about with introducing a female to 2 males cats? I know they will take some time to adjust and I know how to do that properly, but will having a female potentially make my boys or the new girl spray? I've never had a problem with my boys using the bathroom anywhere except their litter box.

I think introducing a female to established males is the "easiest" scenario - especially if she's only young. Just take it slowly, keep them separated for a couple of days and introduce them gradually and you'll be fine.

And I think 3 cats is a good number, if there's 2 cats and one wants to play and the other doesn't, they get annoyed, if there's 3 kitties, at least one of the others will generally want to hang out

Wishing I were anywhere but here
You are a sucker, but a sweet one.
I always feel that way in petsmart. I feel that way when I volunteer at the shelter also. I always want to take them all home, but I can't. I hope they will let you adopt her. She will be spoiled and have some nice friends to play with.

I'm sooo glad you posted this.
I have been asking myself if this is responsible to own 3 cats or not and I've been worried about how my two boys would react to a young female. It sounds promising!

Also, Gunner and Taylor are like kids to me so it almost feels weird to bring a newbie into the mix. It's hard to explain. LOL

I have 2 males (one about 5 yrs and one 2½ yrs) and one female (almost 2 yrs) and they are fine. They are always cuddled up together and sleeping. You shouldn'r have a problem with them.

Make sure you have plenty of litter boxes, so many problems within a cat family can start at the litter box. Make sure you have at least 3, preferably 4.

I just talked to the woman that makes the adoption decision. She hasn't received the application yet, but she must have talked to the volunteer for the specific Petsmart I was at. She said she should be able to get back to me this afternoon.

BTW, the name of the kitty happens to be "Dolly". Dolly -> Loli -> Sucker LOL She was declawed on the 30th and dropped off a few days later. I'm guessing that the family couldn't have had her more than 2 or 3 days after the declawing. Poor little girl.

That is a lot of litter boxes! I'll try 2 for now and see how that goes. I just bought a different type of automatic litter box (LitterSweep) and I have their original manual scoop box. I've wanted to try a Booda Dome litter box to see if that helps prevent the litter from tracking so I may end up with 3 after all.

Can you guys tell I'm excited about this??

I think Gunner will try to eat the little girl. He was a grump when I brought Taylor home but he came around after a few weeks. They are buds now but I rarely see them curled up together. They do clean each other and horse play though.

I got another call. She wanted to know if I planned on having her fully declawed. The are anti-declawing so she is checking to find out if they will allow me to adopt her. They are afraid I will have her declawed. Still waiting and hoping here.

I hate to break it to you, but you will probably need a third box. Girls do NOT like going in the same box that the boys pee in (much stronger smell) so she will probably want her own.

I'll try 2, but I'm not against 3 if she wants her own. I'm getting worried now. The woman was supposed to call me right back but it has been almost an hour.

We have 2 large litter boxes for our 3, and that's fine
We scoop it once a day, twice if it looks as though it needs it, and we've never had any problems.

Don't be worried, she probably just got sidetracked by something else - animal adoption places are often shortstaffed very busy

Well, I've been denied.
They are afraid I am going to declaw her. There is still a small chance that I can adopt her if the director of the shelter will allow it.
