Here... or There... Hmmm
Wouldn't you take the car if you left though??? I mean atleast to get you a ways then take a bus, cab, train, plane etc. Seems fishy all around. Since Oct. and the police only come now?? odd!

Wow that certainly is intriguing. Keep us updated for sure!

Bella - that is terrible about your friend's husband. OMG, I think I would go crazy from not knowing in a situation like that.

Wow this really could be ANYTHING....amazing that from October until February no one at all thought to check on the guy...I hope if I drop off the face of the earth, someone notices before 4 months have passed!

Surely he could have gone on holiday to Africa and something happened while he was there- no one would leave their house and car if they had no plans on returning

Well I have an update on this.

My friend's wife was out hanging laundry when she saw a man trudge through the snow covered driveway of the neighbor and knock on the door. Of course no one answered, but he asked her if they had seen anyone, and she said no, not since last October. The man said he was from the mortgage company and they had a tip that the neighbor went back to Africa.

We knew it! Both myself and my friend and his wife thought that he probably left the country. Though we don't know for sure, it's still a good enough answer for us

Yeah, I agree, at least it wasn't something morbid, but its still strange
Why would he just up and leave, especially when he has a mortgage?

Probably up and left.

Perhap he couldn't stand the cold winters in MA so he went home to Africa.

Is he new to the country? Maybe he doesn't realise that if you don't live there it still means you have to pay bills.

And hopefully, he is OK somewhere.

Stinks for the mortgage company? Ha! I have no sympathy for mortgage companies. While somebody has a huge pile of paperwork to file (their job and hence, how they pay their bills), mortgage companies rarely find themselves in a losing position.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I'd say he's owed money and did a runner.

We had a south african work for us some years back, and him and his wife just left to go back to south africa suddenly with no explanation. The council who they rented the apartment from rang us asking if they could speak to him, but i had to tell them that he wasn't in the country anymore. It turned out that they owed them and a lot of others thousands of ££££

He had the cheek to ring us up a couple of years ago asking if we could take him back on because it was really bad where he was. Yeah right, come to our country and drain the tax payers out of their hard earned cash again, i don't think so!

Considering our recent problems with mortgage company I'm also finding myself totally unsympathetic

You're probably right. I don't know how new to the country he was though. My friend has been in the house for about 3 years, so I'd say that he was in the house for maybe 1 1/2 - 2. Maybe less.

What really stinks is the house I'm sure has alot of damage from the water. I would imagine there is a collapsed floor, broken plumbing, mold inside, and probably outside underneath the siding.
