OK, the current vet finally faxed his latest blood and urine analysis results. The nurse had a chat with the current vet to get a general overview of his condition starting with the UTI infection in late Nov '06.

We had fixed an appt tomorrow at 3.30pm to see the new vet. Will post on the developments.

Sounds a good step to take, wishing you well and glad you posted an update, I was wondering how things were going.

Wishing you the best of luck. There is nothing wrong for asking for a second opinion. I hope that you can manage the illness and keep Snowy happy.

recently my vet found "problems" with Nibbley's kidneys. He showed me a chart that had four parts to a blood panel. ONE element of the four (forgot the darn name!) was high so the vet put him on Hill's K/D diet to "prevent further issues"

Was putting Nibbley on this K/D diet neccessary?? Does Nibbley have the beginnings of CRF?? or is it just a minor issue with that ONE raised level of (?) in his blood. The vet is Eastern Indian with a heavy accent and it is hard to understand him. He made it sound minor, but yet I keep reading about renal failure and can find NOTHING about minor kidney issues needing K/D food as a preventative.

Ask for a copy of the lab results, then go to www.felinecrf.org and look over lab test results and check against what they discuss there. It would help you understand.

If it were my cat, I'd want to be sure my cat was still able to concentrate its urine (they check this by checking the urine specific gravity), and be sure that all other labs were fine including potassium, calcium and phosphorous levels, plus that the hemaglobin and hematocrit were normal.

Honestly, just read over the site I listed, it discusses all the stages of crf, associated issues (increased stomach acid, nausea and vomitting, constipation secondary to dehydration, muscle wasting are some).

All, I brought Snowy to Vet B yesterday and very glad to have found a new vet whom I confident of. She was very professional.

She did an overall check to assess his health and we did some talking about his recent treatment at Vet A. When I told her what Vet A did to my cat, she was mortified.

For instance, Vet A put the catheter to drain his bladder for 8 weeks.

Secondly, Vet A flushed my cat's bladder with sterilized saline solution 2x daily for 19 days and made me do it for another 2 weeks. She was horrified to hear of this.

Thirdly, Snowy was put on a diuretic medication in the 7th week, only to have him diagnosed with CRF in the 8th week. She was mortified and told me seriously he wasn't supposed to take that medication at all because of his CRF.

Fourthly, Vet A sewed on the cathether to his skin around his penis without sedation on 3 separate occasions. I was traumatised to learn this was not the way. He was in great pain each time.

Vet B commented that Vet A did a "blotched up job". I'm feeling very traumatised after learning that my cat had to undergo unnecessary pain emotionally and physically.

I felt like filing a complaint against Vet A so that other animals don't have to suffer under her treatment. I don't think she's professional at what she's doing. But I just found out she's a member of the only local veterinanry association here

Anyway, I told Vet B I wished to have Snowy hospitalized at their clinic for a few days to be hydrated, treated for his recurring UTI (but no more crystals) and severe cold, get urinanalysis and blood test re-done and observation. He's still being force-fed. Vet B is trying to get him to eat so that he can be put on k/d diet asap.

Vet B has been calling me yesterday and today to keep me updated about Snowy and will do so until he's discharged. They've been very kind and have compassion.

I'm so glad you found another vet that is willing to help more with Snowy's condition. I can't believe the other one was so awful! Its best to get a second opinion on things that are so serious and I'm glad you did.

Sending lots of positive thoughts for you and Snowy.

I'm glad that you have found a much better vet. I don't have any advice, but I will be thinking of you and Snowy and hoping that he gets better soon.

Dear Pat and Loving Friends,

Snowy passed away this morning at 5.58am (+8hrs GMT), Singapore.

We took him home from Vet B after 1.5 weeks of hospitalization for treatment and observation. Vet B became worried when his condition slid over the weekend. I decided to take him home yesterday. I did consider euthanasia but firmly believed that God will handle this. I asked Him to do it swiftly to lessen the pain.

Here're the last posts I made at the Goodbye Forum here: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...74#post1592274

And the ones I had been posting during his treatment at Vet B at feline-crf group forum: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/f...o/message/2421. I made the last post minutes ago here but it's awaiting approval from the mods. It's the same post you can read in the Goodbye Forum so you won't miss anything.

All prayers for his little soul. He was one of my greatest companiosn and taught me alot abt the importance of relationships and emotional support within the family during the last 9.5 weeks. By sharing to take care of him with my mother, I understand now why my mother is whom she is ie. doing what she knows best - Being The Greatest Mom. So, Snowy's passing bring comfort in other ways too.

Amen

Nita,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know that other special TCS kitties who've gone on before, will be there to welcome Snowy...including my Patrick.
