If this is in wrong section, I apologize.
But I was wondering something about a cats purr. Does every cat really have a different purr sound?? I think they all sound the same, but I was told a LONG time ago that they all have different purrs. So anyone here wanna fill me in??

I think they are all different. I can tell out of my 5 boys, who is who just by their purr.

And at the rescue I can tell who some are.. because it sounds like a pigeon.

But yeah.. I'd liek to think it's like a fingerprint. There's no two kitties the same.

I can definately tell my cats purrs from other cats

But I suppose it couldjust be that I am used to his rhythms and style vs. the actual root sound being different....

I can tell who it is just by their purrs too. I have two that purr so softly you have to be listening to hear them and one that purrs like a lawnmower.

Yup my 3 girls all have different purrs. As Februa said - I don't know if the root sound is the same. Smudge purrs loud and long, Stumpy purrs fairly softly and is more start/stop, and Lily mews softly while purring

So far everyone is right, And I too can tell the difference between all six cats by their purrs...also some are loud and some have very soft purrs which is so cool, but with my stormie u can hear her a mile away when she starts purring
bella is a low but still loud, blue is loud but no one beats stormie, Tessa's is very very low, Willies is sometimes low and sometimes loud more in between id say, and Midnight well his purr is low. And they all have their different sounds and rythums to their purrs and i
it also some purr more often then others, Stormie purrs for everything either purrs or meows
Blue purrs all the time, With Tessa its hard to tell because her purr is soo low, Bella purrs most of the time almost well when shes on my shoulder or getting loven, and Willie he purrs all the time as well, and Midnight he hardly purrs. I just love the neat different purrs for all the cats, I can even tell my brothers cats by their purrs

Jaffa's purr is very loud but Mosi's is barely audible. I can usually only hear him purring if I lay my head on his side. Sometimes I still can't actually hear anything but can feel the vibrations. My bridge baby Magpie had a totally different purr to Jaffa. Not quite as loud and it had a different tone.
