What do you think his chances are?
The fact is that in any year there are hundreds of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize. Anyone can nominate anyone else. Does it surprise me that he was nominated? Nope. Because ANYONE can nominate anyone else. It doesn't mean they deserve the award or even the nomination.
Actually... they can't. http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/200...eft-and-right/
There's a list at the bottom of who is allowed to make nominations.
It's still a pretty wide-open list, especially when looking at the number of universities in the world, and all of the professors of the various subjects listed.Quote:
Any one of the following persons is entitled to submit proposals:
- members of national assemblies and governments;
- members of international courts of law;
- university chancellors; university professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology;
- leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs;
- former Nobel Peace Prize laureates;
- board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize;
- present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (committee members must present their nomination at the latest at the first committee meeting after February 1);
- former advisers at the Norwegian Nobel Institute.
Not really. We're talking about a Nobel Prize.
This prize has been given to the Dalai Lama, Doctors without Borders, Desmond Tutu, Lech Walesa, Martin Luther King, and Mother Teresa.
In what way does having a large number of people listen to you while they sip coffee on a morning commute make you the type of person that should be given the same recognition as them? Bob and Tom have more listeners. And they don't do much but talk about boobs and make fart jokes.
Aside from that fact, the Nobel Prize isn't just for Americans. Rush Limbaugh is exactly what so many people around the world hate about America.
Add to the list of Nobel Prize winners Yasser Arafat. He's right up there with Mother Teresa.
As far as Bob and Tom, never heard of them. I strongly doubt that like Rush, they have almost 14,000,000 listeners.
I don't believe anyone said the Nobel Prize is strictly for Americans. And what is it about Rush that "so many people aroung the world hate about America"? That he's opinionated and speaks his mind? I thought that was a cherished American freedom. Is it because he's patriotic and loves his country? Not a sin, unless one is a self-loathing American, an affliction that too many seem to be suffering these days. Is he hated because he's smart? That seems petty. Or is it because he's extremely wealthy, having become so after years of working in broadcasting. Isn't that the American dream - work hard, and become a success?
If those are the things the "so many people around the world hate about America", that's their problem.
So glad you enjoyed. I made a vow not to enter into anything vaguely political on this wonderful site, and look what happened. Thanks for not lambasting me for expressing myself! And happy upcoming wedding, Erin and Jon! Hope it's the Pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow and the lucky four-leaf clover they hope it will be! (It would be very probable if they include at least one CAT in their family! )
