I thought it might be interesting to have a thread dedicated to facts and such about your state/province.

Saskatchewan: Easy to draw, hard to spell
-Has over 100,000 lakes, rivers, marshes.
-Saskatchewan sends more players per capita to the NHL than any other province or state.
-With approximately 250 golf courses Saskatchewan has more courses per capita than anywhere else in the world.
-Athabasca Provincial Park has sand dunes 30 metres high.
-It's shaped like a rectangle.

-Saskatchewan is also home to many odd city/town names such as Moose Jaw (I live in a moose's jaw!), Eyebrow, Elbow, Amsterdam, Kandahar, Cadillac, Drinkwater, Limerick.
-Keifer Sutherland's mom was born here.
-Saskatchewan is the 'sunniest' province in Canada - averaging up to 2,500 hours of sunshine a year.
-Saskatchewan is home to Canada's only training academy for Royal Canadian Mounted Police recruits, located in Regina.
-Saskatchewan has more road surface than any other province in Canada, with a total of 150,000 miles (250,000 km.)
-Our official sport is.... CURLING!

-Ontario is one of the provinces in Eastern Canada

-It is the second-largest province.

-Quebec is east, Manitoba is west, Great Lakes are south, Hudson Bay and James Bay are north.

-Ontario's capital city is Toronto. Toronto has a large financial district and the stock exchange.

-Ottawa, the capital of Canada, is in southern Ontario.

-flower - Trillium, tree - Eastern White Pine, bird -Common Loon

-The Iroquoians called Ontario "Kanadario" meaning "sparkling water."

-Ontario's motto is "Loyal she began, loyal she remains".

~There is the "upper Penisula" and "Lower Penisula" connected together by only Mackinaw Bright

~People from the upper penisula are often refered to as "You-ppers" by the LP.

~People from the U.P. often refer to people from the L.P. as "trolls" or "fudgies"

~We have a lot of lakes. A LOT.

~State animal is the Wolverine

~State bird is the Robin.

~A portion if Canada is South of Detroit.

~It's no problem to use canadian change as U.S. change in SE Michigan. (only very rarely).

~Winery are located in Traverse City

~Mackinac Island is known for its fudge and is a popular Tourist destination.

1. Arkansas is home to the only public diamond mine in the world! You can go and dig, and either keep what you find or sell them!
Very fun...

2. We are number 1 in the US for Rice production...

3. Literally half the state is covered in forests....I'm convinced the other half is rice fields!


4. Our state bird is the Mocking Bird

5. The honeybee is our state insect, although we all think it should be the mosquito


6. John Grisham was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas which is about 20 miles from where I live

7. Its 100 degrees in the summer, 0 degrees in the winter, and normally we skip fall and spring...

*Cold as all hell, but no freakin snow - where's the damn snow!

*State flower - The mayflower
*State Cat - The tabby cat (Yes! I found a site where it says our state cat or cat emblem. This was made official in 1988 in response to wishes of school children across the state!

* I think we have our own state holiday. Patriots day. I think that's the one. I know cause I don't get it off. I work in CT.
