I know we've talked about kitties dreaming....but do you guys think they can have nightmares. Here's what happened:

Last night Lucky was sleeping in her soft carrier (she sleeps in there all the time) and I was watching some TV on the couch just around the corner. About an hour after she settled in she suddenly started this terrible crying (you know the sound of the cry when they are scared...i.e. at the vet getting a shot etc). BUt the crying went on and on and on...until I finally called out very softly to her and she jumped out of the carrier and came running to me. Her pupils were huge. She jumped onto my lap, climbed over all the books and stuff to hide her face in my chest and under my chin. Within a few minutes she was fine and acting normal again, but she wouldn't leave my side and didn't go back in the carrier.

This was the first time I'd ever seen anything like that....so what do you guys think...did she have a nightmare or is it something else? Have any of your kitties ever shown signs that they were scared by something while sleeping?

Either a nightmare, or some horrible ghost is now inhabiting the cat carrier!

I'm sure its possible for a cat to have a nightmare, but I've never seen my cats give an indication of having one.

I believe that cats can have nightmares too.

The other night Zoey was sleeping on the top of the couch behind my head when I heard some low moaning noises. I looked at her and she was dead asleep but different parts of her body were twitching.
Her eyes even seemed half open but I spoke to her and she didnt budge. I even touched her softly and she didnt budge! She just kept twitching and moaning LOL so I freaked out and woke her up and she was fine but it was realllly weird.

Ditto! This happens to Lucky. I freak out thinking he is having a seizure. Poor guy. Wonder what's troubling our kitties.

Well after I woke her up she bolted and ran to her food bowl, so maybe she was having a dream that Saki was eating her food

I think they do. When I picked up Quicksliver from the vets (After getting her spayed 3 months ago), she was a bit off because she still had the sedative in her. So I laid on the sette with quilt round me and let Quicksilver sleep on me. Every so often she would wake up and attack me and her eyes looked funny... Like it wasn't her. I put it down to night terra's. Everytime she woke up and attacked me I would tell her it ok I am here and she is safe. She stopped after awhile. She and Creep have nightmairs and there meows are sooo cute. It's like a fustation meow and there paws and wiskers twich as well

Poor Tomas sometimes has awful dreams that make him growl and cry. I really wonder what happened to him before I found him

I think if an animal can remember they can dream, I've seen dogs try to run in their sleep or whimper many times. I've also seen my baby leopard gecko twitch like he's trying to walk in his sleep, he obviously remembers things so I wonder if lizards can dream too?
