It requires electricity (please read 6th paragraph if you DON'T have electric where your ferals are located).

K & H Manufacturing has a new *soft* heated *outdoor* kitty bed. I bought 3 and have been using them for a little over 2 months now. They are TERRIFIC!!! They're soft, so it's much more comfortable for the cats to lie on. They warm to 102 degrees, the normal body temperature of a cat, and only heat the area the cat is actually on, so it conserves energy. The beds are made specifically for outdoor use. They aren't cheap, but for the comfort they bring the cats (and my peace of mind) they are worth every penny.

They come in three sizes: 14" x 18" which is a good size for a single cat, $39.99. For two cats there's a 19" x 24", $49.99. There's also a larger one that's about $59.99, I think. The beds came with special fleece covers to let the heat through. They are the best thing I have done for my feral babies in all the years I've cared for them. The cats love these beds. We're all sleeping better at night now!

Though the directions say not to use extension cords, I'm using outdoor extension cords for all the beds and have had NO problem.

For more info go to www.khmfg.com Click on "heated cat beds" and scroll down til you see the Lectro-Soft Outdoor Kitty Bed. If you decide to purchase one, you'll be directed to a list of retailers. I found Pet Street Mall to be the most reasonable.

If you don't have electricity where your ferals are located, you might want to look at an item I saw in the Care-A-Lot Pet Supply Catalog. It's called a Thermo-Wave Soft Microwavable Bed Warmer. It looks like a soft pad that can be microwaved and slipped under hay or straw. I don't have one myself yet, but will be buying it for one of my little feral guys who's at a location where there's no electricity. I like the idea of a soft pad better than the Snuggle Safe Microwavable Disc, which is hard and gets ice cold once the heat dissipates.

The Thermo-Wave bed warmer comes in two sizes: 9" x 9" for $23.95, and
9" x19" for $34.95. Go to www.carealotpets.com
