I have offered to be a volunteer at a small animal rescue centre (The Blue Cross) near me. I had to fill in some forms and send them off and they have accepted me

I'm going up on Saturday for my first proper viewing of the place and might be able to start work. The manager said I can do like two hours and if I am really enjoying myself I can stay for longer

I can't wait. I plan to work there when I have left school (I'm still only 15, but 16 in April
) so being a vounteer will help get me a place to work there

Even though I won't get paid for it, I know I am doing something which I love. I am allowed to feed the animals and socialise with the little kittys
The best bit will probably be working with the cats but I am looking forward to working with the dogs/puppies, rabbits etc.

I'm so exciting

It will hopefully be good fun

Gives me something to do over the weekends too when there's nothing at home to do. lol

Might be able to get some pics of the gorgeous little kitties too
Depends on whether they let me.
They used to be a kitten down there which was identical to my Billy boy. I took a pic of him on my phone. It was amazing how alike they were.

I went in today and it was brilliant

I can spend most of my time with the cats
I'm allowed with the rabbits too but there aren't very many of them.
I'm not allowed in with the dogs because I'm under 18yrs and I presume its a safety thing.

I got some pics of some of the kittys I was playing with but they are on my phone and I don't know how to get them from my phone to the computer. lol

There was this little black kitty called Bobby who was the first one I saw. He was really cute, and wanted lots of cuddles. He only had three legs, Bless him.
There was a little black and white kitten called Chloe who was really cute. She kept trying to escape. Because your allowed to let them walk around the corridoor because its all closed in but there was another women there who had a couple of ginger cats out so I couldn't let her out at the same time.
I also played with these other two who were GORGEOUS. So friendly. I loved them. Their going to a new home this afternoon which will be nice for them

There was also a couple of Turkish Van x's which were really sweet

I am going to go back again next weekend and maybe help up there during half term

That is great news LuLu, it sounds perfect for you, and there is nothing like doing something that you really enjoy doing. I am glad that you had fun.

Hugs coming from Mississippi to you for doing this.

Good luck to you. I have also looked into volunteering at a cat shelter. I am retired and am looking to keep busy a few hours a day. I will not do anything just now tho cuz I'm afraid of the snow and ice. I don't want to be obligated and then not show up so I will wait till Spring. This happens to be an all cat shelter, I have a few to choose from including my Vet who just takes care of cats.

'Tis a good thing you are doing, Lulu. We cats need so many more human friends like you. It is sometimes hard for us little critters to take care of ourselves in this world of the New Millennium, so we are beholden to those dear folks like you who sacrifice themselves to care for our furry brothers and sisters.

Of course your statement, "There was also a couple of Turkish Van x's which were really sweet" caught my eye, as well as Molly's lovely amber eyes. We are particularly distressed to hear of fellow Vans who do not have a home. We are not very good at the King's English, although we do struggle along with the version used on this side of the pond, so might you tell us what a "Turkish Van x" is in the UK?

Molly and I pray that your Vans soon get a good home like we have here. We get to chirp at the seagulls every day, and Ann and Jim give us the run of their little home on the beach.

Love you,

Samwise

Thanks for everyone's comments. Haven't been online recently so am just catching up. lol

A Turkish Van x is just a Turkish Van crossed with another breed of cat.

Will be going up there again tomorrow depending on the weather because we had a lot of snow yesterday and its still here plus loads of Ice. If its really bad I probably won't go.
