Your kitties are beautiful. I don't know how old Cozmo might be, it's really hard to say, but I just wanted to see pictures, anyway.
He's got a really sweet face. He does look like he's not feeling too great, probably because of his ears and rabies shot. Let us know when he gets back to his old self!

He looks a bit larger than my 5 month old kitten, so maybe 7 months makes more sense. I thought it was a pound per month to guess the age anyways?

Is Panther, the orange cat, not striped on his body? I dunno if I've seen an orange kitty that wasn't striped before.

They're both adorable

Panther and Rusty both don't have the normal stripes, Rusty has more white than Panther though. They both have the same mom but Panther is from a earlier batch of kittens than Rusty is. Tuffy was orange also but he had the stripes.

I've noticed with mine that as they grow up they do distance themselves from you a bit. Mosi has just turned 1 and when I go to pet him he's a bit "gerroff mum..." just like a teenage boy being kissed on the cheek in front of his mates! He's still friendly and loves to play with me, have a cuddle and climb into bed at night but he's not up for it all the time like he used to be. I think it's just growing up. My Magpie was like that too but as he got older he became more affectionate. try to think of it as a good thing - that he's being a bit independent. After all, if they're overly dependent it's harder to leave them on their own and we all have to do that sometimes.

As far as Cozmo's age goes, I'd probably say 7 months also, maybe born at the beginning of July, he's still got that kittenish look on his face that goes away at 9-10 months, he really is a beautiful boy!!

Yvonne says my thinking this way is driving him away, but its the way Cozmo is acting that has started me to wonder why. He still sleeps near me at night, but thats about it. I don't think I changed in the way I am around him or did anything to make him act this way.

Maybe its just because he is growing up
and it is just a faze, I am getting afraid he is going to turn into just like the other cats here, I like all of them but they are not close to me like I want them to be. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there are 5 cats here so they don't need as much people contact as if they were the only cat here.

Is it normal for cats to change so much as they grow up?
You do not say how old your cat or kitten is but I have seen a lot of change in Persi in nine months. For instance, he is not sitting right here by my side now (however I do have a new cat now and I do see your mention to 5 cats). And I can almost put something down on an end table and it will still be there five minutes later. Remembering back to other cats I have had, I must say they all changed over time so I was wondering how much time you are talking about, was it like overnight or over many months. It has been my experience that you will see the fastest changes during the kitten stage and some can happen quite quickly like a new defference to bathtubs once it has fallen into a tub of water.

Hi, A few posts back I said that Rusty don't have stripes, I just looked at him close and he does have stripes but they are hard to see.

Hi again, Cozmo is very different than Tuffy in one way, he is NOT a good patient for the vet,
He had a total fit when they took his temp and got the samples out of his ears.

I found out he still loves me at the vet though, after the vet got done with him I picked him up and said "all done" to him and he gave me a hug and rubbed his face on my chin, The vet said he really loves me also when she watched him do that.

I hope I never have to give him medicine any time soon, I have to wrap him in a towel just to get the drops in his ears, but they way he cried at the vet I think his ears are real sore yet.

Peaches will be stand offish for days, sometimes even a week or two. Then all of a sudden she wants to be a lap cat again. It's pure moodiness I tell you!

Now with putting this stuff in his ears 2 times a day he is getting worse about me picking him up. He just cries when I have to put the drops in his ears, his hair falls out like crazy and I can feel his little heart going like mad.

I hate having to put him through this, why is that every cat I get lately have problems and our other ones never do?

I went through the same thing with my Chachi. She was very loving towards me. I got her spayed and had to give her her antibiotics. After that she became agressive with me (and her kids). It did seem like sometimes she wanted to be with me by herself. Unfortunately, she ran away and I really regret that "we didn't make up" and I regret not paying more attention to her.
You are lucky that you have him so be patient and be there for him.

I am glad to hear that Cozmo is on the mend now that you are putting the drops in. I understand how hard it is to help your poor kitty when all they do is struggle and cry. Stanley did that when I had to give him antibiotics.

What I did was just talk softly to him and then hold him for a few minutes after giving him a few pets, still talking softly to him. If he was really good while trying to give them to him I would give him a treat.

As for the distance. Sadie is about a year old I think and she only wants attention on her terms. All I can say is be patient and don't force them, like the others have said, they hate that. Give Cozmo his space and when he does want attention just lavish it on him. But try not to follow the pets with his drops or something similar to that. Because then that might distance him even more.

I am sure you know all of this already, but just sharing my two cents. Hope he gets better real quick!

Hi, I do talk to him nice when I am giving him his ear drops and try to hold him and say "all done" just like I did with Tuffy, but he won't let me hold him at all now, I assume he thinks that when ever I pick him up now I am going to do something to him he won't like.

He was laying in his chair a little while ago so I found a brush and brushed him and said he was a good little kitty, he seemed to like that.

I guess I need to do like everyone says, just not worry about it and let him do things his way. Maybe after he gets neutered he will settle down some. The vets office is going to call if/when they get a cancellation so he can get neutered as soon as possible.

When he looks at me he has a weird look in his eyes lately, like I am a stranger to him or something, or I am different than before.

Hi, I am starting to figure out Cozmo's routine, He is getting very set in his ways just like Tuffy used to be. He sleeps in one place for a certain time, then moves to another for a while then early in the morning he moves to the chair next to our bed. I get to pet him when HE wants me to. He has figured out that I take a nap most afternoons for a while and will come and sleep right next to me, which is nice of him to go out of his way to do

I also can't hold him anymore on my lap at the computer, he has to sit right in front of the screen so I can't see what I am doing or he leaves if I pick him up, heaven forbid if I mess up his fur by petting him

When I give them all treats he eats his and then steals all the other ones treats also, all the others know that the treat I put in front of them is theres and won't take the others treats, but not Cozmo if the others are to slow to eat them than to bad he steals them, I am surprised the others put up with this so far, I think he is going to get a lesson on sharing pretty soon from the others.

My point to all this is Cozmo is Cozmo and I have to like him for what he is, not what I want him to be. I think deep down he trusts me to take care of him and knows I would never hurt him.

Who knows maybe Tuffy would have been just like him in his younger days, and I think the fact that Tuffy was on his own outside trying to survive the best he could before he found me also had allot to do with him being the way he was, he had a whole different view of the world than our other cats that never had to fend for themselves out in the world.

Maybe deep down I wanted another Tuffy more than I thought, and when Cozmo started to be Cozmo as he gets older is making me sad, I have to let go of Tuffy and let Cozmo be Cozmo.

Sorry for getting so "deep" with all this, if anyone other than people who love cats read this they would say I need a life,
maybe I do.

Amen. It's the same thing with kids, too.

Just wanted to add that I have had Lily for a little over a year, and although she has been sweet to me (and vice-versa), it's been the last two months that I've noticed a change - we've gotten a lot closer. She has started snuggling, and she gives me little nibbles on my arm, which are both new things.

I'll bet Cozmo has a lot of things up ahead that will suprise you and make you happy, especially because you are accepting him for who he is.

Cheers, from
SwampWitch

p.s. I'm sorry about your sweet Tuffy.

Cozmo seems to be getting more distant from me each day. He cries and fights when I try to hold him as if he thinks I am going to hurt him or something. I asked the girl I got him from about Cozmo's brother and she says he is still real friendly and cuddly, but he has been neutered for a while now and Cozmo has not been yet. All I can do is hope he changes after he is "fixed".

If he keeps on acting like he is I am thinking of giving him back to where I got him from. I don't want to, but I don't need another cat here to feed and clean up after and I get nothing back. I have 4 others here that are basically like that already.

Hello, I am trying something with Cozmo, its a little hard for me to do but I am giving attention to the other cats in front of Cozmo but not him. He looks puzzled when I do it and he gets jealous, well today he was a little more friendly to me than he has been lately. I am trying to show him how it feels for me.
