I've looked everywhere and can't really seem to find answers to this.

Once again I come to the wonderful, resourceful TCS gang.

Does anyone know anything about what hormone or other imbalance would cause my fingernails to grow so insanely fast?

I mean, I don't file or shape my nails because I have to cut them like every three days!

No, but finger nails are important indicators of overall health - I'd give your doctor's office a call.

I would but it's long distance and I don't have long distance phone service.
I do have an appointment on the 23rd though, so I will be asking!

Not unless you count trips to the bathroom to get rid of my rented coffee

Seriously, no.

Mine grow fast too, but cutting them every 3 days?! Phew? That would be annoying. I've always been told that strong, fast growing nails were a sign of good health, however, 3 days is a bit excessive. I'd be asking the doc too.

Well, I'm definitely not pregnant

I certainly don't have long fingers (my mother says I have the hands of a 10 year old boy lol).
I'm not what I consider old, but I'm not young either, in fact well past the prime as far as this site's info on age and growth rate.

I do use my hands a lot though.

Actually I have never heard of fingernails growing too fast. That would be a good question for a doctor!

thanks Rigel, me too!

Thanks everyone, I will most certainly be bringing this up with my Dr on the 23rd.
Hopefully I'm just worrying over nothing and I've been bleesed (cursed?) with rapid nail growth.

Maybe this is my super power

Do you have your hands in water a lot? Water helps nails grow. I was a dishwasher at a restaurant for 4 years and my nails grew really fast.

Only when I do dishes, which is only once a day for maybe ten minutes.
But the fast growing is recent (last 4-5 months) and I've been doing my dishes by hand for the last ten years.

Are they just growing faster, or has anything else changed? Like are they thinner/thicker, colored differently, or have lines or anything?

just fast, they've always been thin my whole life, simply because I just don't take care of them.

a Thyroid disease can greatly influence your nail growth.
Please have your levels checked asap.
Thyroid disease can be a lot more serious than ppl think if you let it go.
