cleaning rugs?

I have a question about cleaning persian rugs. I have a persian rug and I vacuum it. I'm not sure I am doing it a favor by vacumming it. I vacuum every day and i have one of those vacuum with the brushes that rotate.

How do you clean your rug?

Vacuuming an oriental rug is very important to maintaining it. especially wool or silk. Every few years - maybe five or longer if its not in a high traffic area- you take it to a specialist for cleaning. I have several really wonderful oriental rugs - all wool and one silk and wool and they get vacuumed regularly and spot cleaned immediately with a rug cleaning product.

One thing to be aware of in cheaper rugs is that a wet spot can cause the warp threads to bleed into the weft and create a large brown stain. That stain can't be removed. Always consult a professional if the rugs are of heirloom quality.

I don't think this one is silk. My parents have a few silk ones and I don't think this one has any in it. But aren't the brushes on my vacuum too harsh on it?

I just freaked out because i went around with a lint brush to see what my vacuum was and wasn't picking up and on the rug i had little fibers from the carpet and i don't want to be slowly tearing it part by vacumming. It has a few settings where you can put the brushes close to the ground or higher up and i've always used the closest to the ground setting.
