Well I guess its not much of an update. We ended up taking him to the ER Friday night. We didn't get any answers than. A lot of it could be this. But that was it. We had a kidney scan today but I won't know the results of that for a few days yet. My husband though was talking to a fellow co worker last night about my son. And she said she just went through the same exact thing with her son. In his case it lasted 3 weeks and she took him to the hospital 2 times looking for answers. The best any doctor could come up with is there is some new virus strain or something going around that the only symptom is severe stomach pain. Thats it. So that could be it but no one has any name for this mysterious sickness/ virus. Unfortunately this is the only update I can give for now.

I can imagine you would be worried sick about your darling - I would be too! He is in my thoughts as are you and do let us know how he is doing.

I saw your other two threads but never responded to them. I really hope they will find out what he's been sick with, it sounds terrible.

Well here is the condensed version of whats going on. A week ago today he started complaining of bad stomach pains at school. When I got there he was running a low grade fever 100.3. By the time I got him to the doctor (30 mins away at most) the fever was gone. But he still had tons of stomach pain. Doctor listened to him tapped on his belly and said he had a lot of gas built up in his belly. Sent us home with liquid ZanTac and another medicine. Neither of which did anything. We made it through that night but the nest day he was in pain. That night I called his doctor because of the pain. They said give him TUMS to help the gas. Did that didn't help. That morning back to the doctor we went. This time they gave us another medicine (a pill) to take and said to take him off his growth hormone shot in case he was having a reaction to it. By Friday night we were at the hospital for the pain. They did x rays, blood work all that. They had no answers. They said it maybe an inflammed bowel but there was no test for that.Sent us home with ibuprofen told us this would last another week before it got better. Saturday he lazed around but started to perk up somewhat. Sunday he was playing but barely had any pain. Today we had an ultrasound on his kidney's done. We had that done because my oldest son had a kidney problem that required surgery. So we want to rule that out. But because he was feeling so good I sent him to school. He made it all day and was fine when he came home. Ate supper and bam its back.

So that is the semi condesed version. Basically I have no idea what the heck is going on.

Thank You Moz I hope they figure something out. Its the not knowing that kills me. And him being in pain and there is nothing I can do for it that stabs at me.

Oh My Gosh this is the first I am seeing any of this I am so sorry, your poor son, I hope they find out what is going on soon. Something similar happened to my sis when she was a kid and she was hospitalized for a few days but they never found out what was wrong, it just eventually went away.

I will remember all of you in my prayers

Have they ruled out Gastroparesis....sometimes it can cause severe abdominal cramping. It is a delayed emptying of the stomach. I have it really bad- but the weird thing is i also have IBS with diarreah (the reason is it takes forever for my stomach to digest- and when it does it has sort of a "dumping syndrome" where it happens all at once- it can be very painful. (that along with several other GI and reproductive issues
) Also- when you ask about it- is your son diabetic? someitmes gastroparesis is really common with diabetes. I am one of the very few oddballs who has Gastroparesis without diabetes. The way they diangnose Gastroparesis is with a Gastric Emptying Study- your son has to eat "radioactive" eggs and drink water....and they see how long it takes his baldder/stomach to empty. (I promise it is NOT bad at all- i had the tests done a few weeks ago- i got to watch tv the entire time and had to stand every 15 minutes in front of an x-ray machine so it could take pictures of my stomach- that was it! It's not bad or invasive. Also -the radiation in it is no more than he would be exposed to with a normal x-ray- so it won't hurt him.
Definitely mention that to his doctors if his symptoms and abdominal pain keep up. Pm me if you wanna know more
I'm praying for him.

I had missed prior to this thread the fact that the child of note is receiving Growth Hormone injections. Abdominal Pain and bloating is a less-common, but noted side effect of Growth Hormone therapy. Did you resume the Growth Hormone prior to the resumption of his symptoms? I hope you have had a pancreatic screen done: there is correlation between GH use and Pancreatitis
see NEJM Letter:

Good luck, and I hope everything is back to normal soon!

Here is the story on the shots. It was around Thanksgiving when we found out he had no growth hormone output. Took a month to get the medicine in (Insurance took forever). Day after Christmas we started the shots. At first the doctor gave us the wrong dosage for the shot. He was supposed to get 0.5ml of the medicine but the doctor told us the wrong syringe dosage. We were only giving him 1/2 of the correct amount. But was having no stomach pains. After 3 wks I figured out he was getting the wrong dose and move it up to the correct dose. (called doctor to confirm this and he did). So then he started getting the full 0.5ml dosage 3 times a week. So within a week the stomach pains started. I did an internet search and found out about the stomach pain part as a side effect of the Nutropin AQ. Doctor agreed to stop the medicine for 2 weeks to see if that stopped the pain. So far I am not sure it has.

The area of his stomach he keeps pointing at and saying the pain is is almost always right around the belly button. Sometimes a little lower but mostly right around the belly button area.

Doctor called about 20 mins ago. He said the kidneys look fine and that nothing abnormal showed up on any of the x rays. So right now I have no idea what is going on. Doctor seems convinced the pain will go away soon though. Right now I am just frustrated.

I'm sending vibes for your son. I got an email from a friend in Philly today, and her 16-year-old daughter ended up in the ER Saturday night with the same symptoms as your son. Supposedly she has gastroenteritis (stomach flu) caused by a Norovirus. http://www.medicinenet.com/norovirus...on/article.htm I have five kids (late teens) in one class who are out with the same thing. Apparently, this virus is spreading throughout North America and Europe like a wildfire right now.
