OH boy! Simon is home. Well we were home for about an hour anyway.
He absolutely went wild flipping and jerking all over the place. He was attacking his leg and biting the bandage. I just sat there and cried!
I couldn't get him to calm down and relax . I felt so useless!!

I ended up calling the vet back because they didn't say anything about him acting this way. I was totally unprepared. They had me bring him back in to make sure the bandage wasn't too tight.

They couldn't find anything wrong and said it was the stress of being home and not liking his cage or the bandage. He is so upset. He did eat and take his evening meds. I was able to take a few pictures once he decided to calm down. He has yet to sleep since we arrived home at 4. Which is weird because they said his meds will keep him sleeping most of week 1.

He goes back on Friday to have his cast changed and stitches will come out some time next week. Or they are suppose to anyway.

Please keep those calming {{{vibes}}} going for Simon. It is so scary to watch him and all I can do is crawl in the cage and hold him. I just want him better.

His eyes are so clear and he is very alert for someone who is suppose to spend the week sleeping and healing.

We have completely covered the back and sides to create a more closed and protected place and this seems to be working so far.

Sadie had surgery to remove a small tumor last year.
She was really agitated after the anesthesia for a couple of days....
then she calmed down.
It is so hard to see our babies frightened.

Simon is a lucky boy to have a Mommy who cares so much.

Calming vibes on the way to both of you.

How is your boy this morning?

He is so upset with this whole ordeal! Thank goodness he has stopped attacking and biting his leg. His toes looked good this morning. He ate his breakfast and took his medicine. I tried padding his kennel with towels to prevent further injury but he just gets so tangled in the towels that I have removed them. I'm going to go buy those bumper pads you get for baby cribs to see if that helps. I don't know what else to do.

He goes back on Friday for a dressing and bandage change.

He did sleep through the night. I never heard him banging around or meowing and he really has an extremely loud cry. So I feel I would have heard him if he was thrashing.

I feel so terrible when he throws himself around the cage. I just can't stop crying.
It's only day one and already I feel like a basket case.

Call your vet.
Let them know how agitated Simon is.

They might want to prescribe something that will help Simon calm down and rest for the next few days.
I really feel for you.

Ohhh poor Simon, we are all praying for you sweet boy. I wish it was easy and you could just tell him it won't be long till he feels better and his cast if off

Our cat Teddy broke his leg and he just laid on his back and rolled back and forth crying with that leg in the air, finally the vet had to take it off and let him heal that way, but he was very distraught, so I can imagine how Simon is feeling

Oh Eva
It sounds like things are really stressful there. I think what Lei suggested to see if His Dr can perscribe him something. He is supposed to be resting so he can heal.

You might want to check into some of the Bach's essence that you can find at the health food store. Rescue Remedy is used in stressful situations. You should be able to just rub some on the inside of his ears and paw pads.

I wish I was close so i could come and help you.

Thanks for the advise and I did call the vet and just received a return call. He is suppose to get pain meds every 12 hours and now I can give it every six so hopefully that will help. I want to say it starts with an "R" but I really don't remember what medication it is I know it's mixed in his clavamox.

He was sleeping when I left this morning and my son is home now and says he is laying down quietly with only the occasional walk around the kennel.

Pam, is Bach essence and Rescue remedy the same thing or two different things? I'm willing to try anything to help him stay calm. I have a health store right up the road and I will check there when I leave.

Thank you guys again for all the support and help. I don't know why I thought this was going to be easy!

Oh it sounds like he is adjusting, Im so glad to hear that.

Bach is the name brand, Rescue Remedy is the name of the product of 5 of the essence mixed together. Just ask for Bach's Rescue Remedy. I have also used a product called 5 Flower Formula that is the same thing. The people at the health food store "should" be able to help you.

I will continue to keep you and your baby in my thoughts, Eva.
