Thank you all for such warm receptions to Neffie. I have the door to the computer room cracked so that the cats can smell each other, day 2 results, hissing and Neffie hiding from the door. Oh well, it's only day two.
She IS spayed but the vet told me to watch and see if she goes into heat? I wonder why? Is there a way to tell if they are spayed for not? My friend says she is but now I am wondering because of what the vet said. My current cats are all fixed but I still don't want a yeowling cat in a few months, that'll upset the balance and might make the cats start to spray. (not that it'll change anything, I'll be keeping her no matter what, it'll just be an inconvience and she isn't good in a carrier.)

I believe that the only way to be 100% sure is to:
A) Ask your friend for completle vet records
B) Open her up to see if there's anything inside

I do not know of any other way to determine if she is spayed or not. I think your vet telling you to watch her to see if she goes into heat was just a precaution....

Those are the options I was thinking of also. I hope they didn't just open her up and not do the spay. That'll tick me off something fierce!
This poor cat's been thru enough!

Barb, they shouldn't have to open her up to be able to tell. They should be able to shave her tummy to look for a scar.

With Booger, they shaved her tummy. There was a scar - but it was so jagged, they thought maybe it was just a coincidence. She obviously bolted right after she'd been spayed, poor thing. They had to open her up and guess what? She was spayed. We felt so bad - but we had to be sure.

Neffie has no hair on her tummy. She has no hair on the back of her legs or the top of her back by her tail and the bottom of her tail either. They said nothing about a scar on her tummy, So I don't know. Neffie is such a sweet cat. I am not sure how long to keep her separated from the other cats. Twig tried to go after her the other day and when I grabbed at him he tried to bite both Rocket and me and got me only luckily. Whenever he sees Neffie he gets agressive and I'm worried he's going to hurt one of the cats, either her, or one of the others.

Congrats on the beautiful kitty, and adoption vibes for Sunny.

See if you can see a scar on her tummy, it should look a bit like a tiny bellybutton in just about the right place.
