My male cat has just been diagnosed with UTI. There is alot of blood in his urine. He has been on medication for 2 days and the bleeding has not stopped. Anyone know how long the bleeding will last? Also, does anyone know where I might find a discount for the "special Diet" food that he will have to be on for the rest of his life? I am using Purina UT for now but he doesn't seem very interested in it. The Vet told me that I could mix it with the regular wet food he usually eats and was wondering if I had to switch to all special diet food in the long run.

Ho Patti and welcome to the forums!

Please check out this thread:
http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...?threadid=1113

It's about food and Urinal tract diseade in cats. I don't know where you can get the special food cheaper. It is fairly expensive... maybe someone else here will know.

As for the bleeding, did the vet tell you how long it should take for the bleeding to stop? Maybe you should ask them over the phone.

Please let us know how he's doing (post updates as a reply to this thread).

Hi,

Thanks for answering my post. Mijo (Mehoe) is doing better. The bleeding seems to have stopped. He is also starting to at least eat the food in small quantities. I was throwing out so much of it that he and his sister didn't eat. I don't particularly mind when it's the $3.98 bag of food but when it's the $18 bag it's painful! The vet told me to mix the dry prescription food with over the counter wet for a while so they would learn to like it. Somehow I don't think I will ever get to the point where they will eat it without the over the counter stuff! We'll see.

Thanks again,
Patti
